    my sims moved to an entirely different town, but i no longer have the time travel pod since the move. how do i go back to the future?

      Just go to buy mode. You find the time portal under transportation/misc.

      Just one thing I'd like to mention: in case you've already gone to the future before, and have descendants and friends there, you will lose all of them if you move into a new town. The future will also be completely fresh once you get there.
