I've always wanted to have a desert world for my game and decided to make my own in CAW so I could have another option and still try out the ones made by others.I don't intend to populate the world though I might offer a populated version by uploading to Mediafire and having it bundled with a populated game save.It will be a build your own world because those have fewer issues with placing lots in edit town breaking routing.
I'm starting with sculpting terrain and shaping it to get the riverbed marked and defined.
Here's more sculpting to fill in low-lying areas.
Here's where I've got the riverbanks defined.
I've got another shot of another location along the riverbed.
Comments
I've started with roughing in the terrain to shape it for the world I'm creating.
I outlined the raised land along the waterfront areas.
I was almost finished with outlining when I made a big mistake while saving.I never use "save" for saving my worlds and have always used "save as"with "world_lite.world"only for a first save then I would use"world-a_lite.world" and change the file name each time I save a world in CAW,but this time I typed in the same file name I loaded under by mistake and found I could delete a folder for that overwrite save and reload the world.I did my work and saved under "Logan-d_lite.world" that worked.
I had to redo the outlining and save again and I didn't repeat the mistake I'd made earlier.
I took a final picture of the last bit of work I'd done.I've got the terrain sculpting started and I'm getting it done.
I've started to outline raised land and fill in the outline.
I was still working on finishing off the fist phase of terrain sculpting.I also saved it under another file name.
I worked on outlining and filling in on the other side of the riverbed before I saved with another new file name.
I took this after I was done with the terrain and was saving under a third file name.
The terrain is starting to take on the shape it should have when the world is finished.
Here's the outlining of the new raised section.
I'm starting to fill the raised section in.I was also saving when I took this picture.
I filled in the new section.
Here's my sculpting work so far.
Things To Do
Rough sculpt the terrain.
Smooth the terrain out.
Work on the terrain detailing.
Paint in routing for camera and Sims.
Start painting the terrain for the riverbed and just take it all over.
Start laying down the roads and trails.
Place effects.
Place Road Objects.
Start painting the desert terrain over the riverbed paint.
Paint in the grassy terrain in the spots meant for grass terrain paint.
Place spawners.
Place world objects.
Prepare world for export to game for testing.
TODAY'S PROGRESS
Here's the outlining I started with to get more raised terrain.
I've raised more terrain here.
I've gotten most of it filled in and started another level around the outside edge.
I've gotten most of today's work done.
Here's my saving with "save as" and using new file names each time I save.
I did some outlining for the elevated area on the other side of the river.
I filled in the elevated area.
I decided to save under anew file name as usual.
I've still got a ways to go with the sculpting on the terrain before I can get into painting the routing and apply terrain paints.
I got started on today's portion of the sculpting and got it partially done before having to save.
Here's my saving screen and I use save as and give new save file names to each world save on one project.
I did the rest of the sculpting for today.
I had to save as again and use another new save file name for this save.
I took this just before saving my work.
I was working while this was taken.
I saved again at the end of my session.
Here's a shot of some of the sculpting I've done so far.
There's more of the work done.
The last shot of the sculpting before I shut down.
I restarted to work on some mesas and got that work started.
Here's the first one started.
More work got done on it.
Here's another one started.
Here's what I usually get after saving my way. It's without the (not responding)message.
I worked on the second mesa and got it near to done.
I went to work on some hills near the edge of the world.
I hope you get feeling better Tadolson.
Here's some more of the pictures on the work in developing the terrain.
I started getting the terrain sculpted for placing a bridge to the island and had to get it raised with a few changes in elevation.
Here's another shot of what my desert world is starting to look like now.
How big is your world gonna be, are you just planning to use just the base game?
Here's where there'll be a smaller bridge to the island.
Here's my first saving run.
Here's where I'll have the big suspension bridge to cross the river.
Here's where I saved again after I finished my work.
I wanted to do more, but I'm still not fully over the flu yet so I did a little.
I started expanding the raised terrain for the larger bridge crossing the river.
I had to sculpt the terrain and save a few times during sculpting to make sure it saved properly.
I got an even higher section for the bridge ready and made sure it was bigger than the bridge was.I'm using the big suspension bridge for the big river crossing.
Here's the bridge placement and I'll have to place the other bridge before I edit the terrain again to look more natural. The second bridge is to be smaller for getting to the island and is from World Adventures.
I got the smaller bridge to the river island placed.
I started working on the terrain around the other bridge.
I got some basic sculpting done with the river bridge.
I've still got a ways to go before this world is anywhere near done.
I started working on the terrain and the caves window popped up just as I took this shot.
Here's the rough editing of the bridge terrain.
Here's after I did more work to start fixing the terrain around the bridge.
I started by fixing the ground around the bridge to the island and making sure the terrain extended out a little way from the edge of the bridge.
I also started smoothing the terrain around the cliff edges to remove most of them.It started near the big bridge.
I moved away from the bridge and began smoothing the riverbank area.
I've got some of the riverbank areas smoothed out.
I've been smoothing the terrain out and extending the mountains at the edge of my world to make it look like the world has terrain beyond the edge.
I started smoothing the riverbanks along the river in Logan.
I've had to move in closer to work around the bridges. The camera is currently facing the lower income part of town.
The mountains show up in the distance where I was working on more smoothing.
I started working on the north side where the wealthier families would live.
I finished with extending the mountains along the edge of the world.
I started by smoothing out some rough areas of terrain out.
I still had more smoothing out to do here.
I got more work done on this area.
I started working on some more advanced sculpting near the edge.
I was trying to get some higher hillsides around the edge.
I wanted to make it look like it is in a larger canyon area.
I had a browser glitch and had to reload.
Do you know which expansion packs & stuff packs you'll be utilizing with this world? I've been looking for a base game desert world and yours is looking really promising so far
I've been working on the later stages of terrain sculpting.
Here's where I put the cliffs near the water.
I was checking my terrain sculpting work to make sure it was finished before starting on terrain painting.
I also checked the bridges out to make sure the terrain there was fine.
I got started on terrain painting the riverbed.
Here's more of the riverbed with it's new terrain paint.
