Error while downloading...uhm, help please?

i just uninstalled sims 3 and re-installed it because it was acting all janky (like my colors disappearing then coming back and then giving my lots names like storeset/skylightstuidos/etc/etc... and then it fixes and then i exited out of sims and when i came back it was like that again). i tried to re-download riverview and it says: 'error while downloading. see log for details.' what log? what does that even mean? what happened? i feel like i made a big mistake un-installing it. its much more complicated than sims 2. i didnt uninstall origins if that mean something, i didnt think it needed to be since it doesnt work anyway. please help. oh, and the eadm is gone. how can i get that back? i feel thats the problem. :evil:
