Unable To Play The Game

I am unable to play the sims 3 pets. I downloaded it and installed it, and the games loads perfectly fine. I tried getting onto one of my other family's without any pets, and they work fine.
But if I try playing a family with a pet, it doesn't work. I don't know if my computer isn't able to play the sims 3 pets or if this just a problem with the game.
I am kind of mad that I am unable to play the game. Thankfully I try downloading it again later and hopeful it work.
