cannot get my sims to return home from University

I did try the suggestions of using Twallans traveler and mastercontroller to get my sims to return home. I did reset the sims and i did save it as an alternate name then reload from the main menu. The sims just keep reappearing at their dorm!

I made the mistake in a previous visit to University of inviting relatives to the graduation. I didn't find out there is a problem with that until my new generation of sims went to school and are stuck there.

Any idea how I can get them home or is this game over?

Can you try reverting to the backup save, perhaps that was prior enough that it's possible to get them home? Make a backup of that save first though. So you can use it again if you need to.
