you have, old age, electrocution, fire, drowning, starving.
Then you have add ons, from expansions or whatever.
death by cow plant, death by jelly bean, death by freezing, overheating/combustion, thirst/vampire, meteor, transmutation (the sim turns to a block of gold), mummys curse,
you can die from being "buried alive" in showtime, also by trauma in University, as you have the chance to be crushed to death by a folding bed. Oh, and you can choke to death in Sims 3 Seasons although I believe the ghost is same as starving

I hear tell of a new death in the new expansion though - suffocation - but thats a myth as far as I know.
theres also the huanting curse backfire death (Super natural) and i heard you can also die from the ivisible sim trick in showtime
(i can't confrim it but it is an option when useing testing cheats and ctrl clicking (or shift clicking can't remember) and selceting overide tombstone plaque.
also i heard you can die when useing the time machine in ambitions but it's a random death type.
