My Sims can't go to work!!

i downloaded some new towns and now my sims cant go to work. the careers are in the same buildings (ie. military and law enforcement). i've drove them to the buildings and they still wont go in. i was just going to bulldoze them and put up new career buildings individually but i wanted to see if there was something i could do about it first. is there?
