Patch 1.47 Saved games and Crashes

So I downloaded the new patch 1.47. I made sure all of my mods were updated and taken out of the game first, started my game and opened a saved town and of course it crashed.
I then created a new game and it loaded fine. So I went into my documents file and deleted my saved game and used the .backup file of my saved game and the game loaded fine.
I don't know what happened, if a file was corrupted when I patched? Anyway if anyone is having the same trouble maybe using your backup file will help or are there other solutions?
