Why is the game lagging on my brand new gaming PC?

So I just got a new PC, one to play skyrim on max, guild wars 2, other new games and the like. When I installed Sims 3 it ran great. Added Ambitions it was fine and Supernatural was fine too. Seasons and 2 stuff packs made it lag a little, now I have added Nightlife and it's bad. I beyond meet minimum req's. I wonder how people play this game with all stuff packs and xp's installed. resetSim * works only sometimes and if I play on Bridgeport the game quickly becomes intolerable. I hear that the game will only access 2GB no matter how much you have... Is there any way to fix or improve it? Someone suggested Twallan's mods to me which I am looking into, anything else out there I can do?

Welcome to the forums. A "new" pc doesn't mean it will run TS3. Second minimum specs are just that - it is what you need to run TS3 but it doesn't say how well it will run. TS3 is a 32 bit application so the game can not address more then 4gb of physical memory (usually ~2.5gb on a 4gb system). The memory management changes depending on how much memory your system has and whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit operating system. Really need to see a dxdiag of your computer.

While 32gb of physical memory is nice it is way over kill for today's gaming computer's. I think the increased overhead for the memory manager could hinder performance. TS3 is a 32 bit application and can not address more then 4gb of physical memory (actually ~2.5gb). After that TS3 uses virtual memory. Even though you have a ssd there is still a performance hit using virtual memory. 71.9gb free on the system drive is low in my opinion and data may get fragmented trying all the services trying to grab what little space is left and this can affect performance. I think the GTX 680 (sounds like a nice video card) in new to market. It may take a little while for Nvidia to get the driver right to get max performance out of the card. This is not uncommon. Please post make and model of power supply. And please post make and speed of memory modules. And make and model of motherboard. Have you tried a mod like overwatch? Unroutable sims can drain the life out of your game (the excessive branching until error routine). First thing I would do is take a 500gb hard drive and gen it up and see how it plays.

My specs are the same as yours with the exception of 32 Gigabyte of ram, I am using 16 GB being there is no programs out there using 32 GB let alone 16 GB. You have a nice system. I hardly use the system though and use my system that has the 2600 on it because I made it my workhorse and too darn lazy to move it to my new system.

The reason for the lag has nothing to do with your system specifications. You have a great gaming rig. The problem is with TS3. There are some things you can do to help with the lag in your game. Unfortunately, some of the solutions require mods.

1] In the nvidia control panel, set VSYNC and Triple Buffering to on for the game

2] Use either awesomemod or any of NRaas' mods. You'll have to Google them since I think posting the links to them might violate the forum rules

3] Limit the number of CC from the Exchange or Store

Ever since TS3 was released users with low free space have had problems. The page file is 62185MB (62gb) out of the 71.9gb making free space on the ssd low. 62gb is LARGE for a page file and even at 71.9gb of free space on the hard drive is low by today's standards.

Most mass retailers (Dell, HP, Acer, etc) gut the bios so the motherboard is not as configurable as shelf bought motherboard. My opinion is AMD has a cleaner approach to multi core and AMD ususally gives more performance for the dollar. I never liked the engineering behind hyperthreading and Intel tends to charge too much for their 'extreme' versions. 8gb of fast memory should handle any of today's games and I can add more memory (4 memory slots - 2 in use) if needed. The 5500Ti is a mid range video card. Most games are written to be run on as many computers as possible so I feel this configuration should handle TS3 and the up coming Tombraider game just fine.

Sh... my son left a nice backlit Logitech keyboard on the servers - wait till he finds out how nice it looks on my new gaming computer!

I only have 39.5GB of free space on my C drive where TS3 base, LN, Seasons, and Store content is installed. My game runs fine.

AMD chips are great for heavily threaded applications. Since current games don't take advantage of it (especially TS3), it only matters if you're doing video transcoding or something similar. I don't see game developers jumping on the bandwagon to make heavily threaded games.

Intel chips's performance per Watt blows AMD chips out of the water. Don't take my word for it. Read some reviews:
