Driving me crazy

This expansion pack is driving me crazy, the latest is there is no sound on the game, my singer was working just fine on his sing-o-grams, then he took a day off and no jobs have come in after that, so consequently he ran out of money. On the overview of the town, none of the buildings are labelled, although they were when I played before. It is worse since the last update, the animation is jerky, the taxi is white and takes a few seconds to get into colour, the house is bare of furniture until that kicks in, and the walls keep disappearing. The setting of which goes from external walls but no internal ones to none at all. Is there a trick to getting it to run smoothly, I have turned off shadows, etc but still the problems remain.
