Can't Open Family Tree

My current Sim is a bit of a player. He has a girlfriend and a 'bit on the side' and has children with both of them. He doesn't live with either of them so I like to check the Family Tree to see how his kids are getting on.
A message popped up saying my Sim was in mourning because one of his sons (a teenager) had died. I have no idea how he died, but, when I went to check the Family Tree to make sure it was the son and not a coincidental same named Sim, I couldn't open it.
I know there have been problmes with the Family Tree and WA - something which, thankfully, hasn't affected me. But I know this isn't connected, because, literally, I could open the Family Tree 10 mins earlier. The problems started when the son died.
Has anyone else had this problem? Did you sort it?
I'm playing on Showtime - and unfortunately, I saved it inbetween the message and trying the Family Tree, so can't just go back to my last saved place.
All help appreciated.
