help program "not responding"

I just got the sims generations today and i installed the disk and was able to play the game. Later I came back and when I try to click the arrow button to start the game it says "not responding"! I uninstalled the pack and re-installed it. Didn't work. I updated my DirectX. Still doesn't work. What do I need to do?! Please help me
