Around 39 years ago when I was a preteen. My step father was exploring ancient ruins on the east coast of the US. There was a rich family that would let us stay in their Victorian mansion somewhere around Woodstock, Vermont. I use to explore every nook and cranny of the house. They also had a maple syrup shed and a horse stable. The garden was amazing. It was like a real life fairy tale back then for me. My mother was attending Lyndon Collage back then and the school had a Victorian mansion as their main building until some idiots tore it down. My mom would bring us there when we were on vacation from school. My older sister and I use to bug the staff by exploring the tower rooms. At least I have experience in seeing in real life how the buildings and the gardens looked.

All EA content is either just content or Store items. ;) So using create a style on EA content that came with EP and SP or from the store, is not CC ;) Using Create-a-Pattern is though. But I'm not sure how that works, I never used it or downloaded it.

And yes, if you don't want any CC in your game, you should be careful downloading from the exchange. I had CC stick to a build of mine too without me knowing :(
There are people that Custard check build/Sims/downloads for CC.
http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/01/tutorial-delphys-custard.html Crinrict has a great explanation of it :)

Thanks for the link. Ever since I manually deleted all of the custom content out of my game I have been afraid to download other peoples items except for patterns. The main four people who's patterns that I use, besides my own, do not seem to effect my game at all.

Sorry I ramble on guys. I have been very ill the past 12 months and it has isolated me so between lack of sleep due to serious pain and restlessness because of not having anything to do until school starts for me in March. I am very restless. I am a nontraditional college student but had to take a year off for medical leave. I can hardly wait until my classes start. I had 5 surgeries this past 12 months and am just glad to still be in this world.

I would like the house to be on a large lot and finished with high end details and modern updates.

I'm kinda confused about something...I know the house is to be a Victorian with traditional Victorian floor plan...but what do you mean by high end details and modern updates?

Can I think of it as the Victorian getting a face lift? or a make over to look/work for people nowadays?

I hope what I'm trying to say is understandable :?

I was thinking something like a remodeled victorian. Just like the HGTV shows - where the house is really old, then they gut it and redecorate it to be more modern and shiny.

Think things like a walk in shower or stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, etc

I did but most of them are of modern style and they look like they are open plans. Well most of them are, or the rooms are sectioned of by columns/arches. So I'm just wanting clarification on if they need to be enclosed by a door.

I don't know if this will help any but this is a site I like to use when I'm looking for Victorian style homes, it may be of help to you or anyone else.

So, is it okay to use blueprints for your builds? Most of the lots that I build are based on a blueprint for a real house. I don't want to be cheating if I submit a house built based almost completely on a blueprint. And if it its okay, do I just give credit to the site I got the blueprint from?

That is totally fine! I do that to when I don't have inspiration or just need some help ;) Or I use Google images. And it's not that easy to build from a floorplan :) we have all experienced it from a couple of challenges ago: Best laid plans

Blueprints are perfectly fine. I tend to look up blueprints and then alter them to suit my needs :)

Just a small question here. Why lot size 50X50 and not 60x60?

There are no 50x50 lots in Sunset Valley. I have to demolish the 60x60 lot and place a 50x50 lot in its place. I don't mind doing so but I get no address when I do. I like having addresses for my lots.

O and I never got clarification on whether the rooms need to be enclosed by a door or are arches/columns ok?

We're discussing the lot thing. We didnt take that into account unfortunately. our bad. We'll let you know on that tomorrow.

As for the other question: I think Arches and Columns are fine as long as there is a very clear delineation of rooms. Example: A room with a wall of columns wouldnt work, but using them to mark a door way would be fine.

does this have to be done in Sunset Valley? I didn't see a town/city requirement - so I was actually building it in Dragon Valley.

They tell us when it has to be in a certain city, so no--use any city you like. Sunset Valley comes with the base game is why people mainly use it, and some challenges require you to use it since everyone has it.

Thank you Lebanna and PhoenixRyder. I have a site that I like to get my blueprints from for most of my builds. It does get hard sometimes to get the layout just right because of the game being perfectly squared and of course most houses are not. Who wants a house that every room is a perfect box... lol... This lot has given me a few hiccups but not that bad. I have a lot in my studio that was really hard took me hours to get it as best I could compared to the blueprints... One of my favs... Lynbrook Manor http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=6346442 ... It's actually the only one in my studio right now that is built with blueprints(other than the one built with the game's blueprint mode.)

    This is awesome!
I try to squeeze it in, I've a lot going on in RL at the moment.
So want to do this though; I've actually never done a Victorian with the Sims3.

Cant'wait to see all your great creations :)

I've already built mine and done about half the landscaping but it's not a big deal to move it to a larger lot though.

I'm having a lot of fun with this one. I love Victorian era houses. :D

I admit it: I could not wait. I had to work on it! lol But I could easily move it to a larger lot. :D

Did we resolve the lot size yet? I just realized I am working on a 60 x 60 lot. I hope this will be ok.

    OPTIONAL CHALLENGE: http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=7990272
    LEVEL: intermediate

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 50x50 lot at 7 Meadow Beach Drive in Hidden Springs.(deleted the bigger lot that was there.) Final cost of the build when I was done was $233,743 but it is cheaper now for some reason.

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: Victor VanEllis asked for a traditional Victorian home with landscaping. I believe I have delivered the requested build.
In traditional Victorian homes, there would be a servant's entrance and home outside the house. I have built this with Jarvis in mind. The office for Victor is spacious and bright. At the entrance to the home is a greeting area to keep unwanted guests from seeing the rest of the house. This can double as a waiting room if Victor decides to work from home. On the second floor there is a nursery near the master bedroom and a children's room just across the hall. I added a guest room with it's own walk-in closet and bathroom near the living area on the second floor. There are service stairs from the kitchen to the 2nd floor for quick cleaning and not being seen. The patio is a great place for entertaining and catching the great breezes from the lake behind the house.
Just off the 1st floor living area is a nice vegetable garden. The yard is planted with flowering shrubs and mature trees.
