In the world I'm creating, there is a reward area for sims who have achieved the ability to teleport (or for those who know how to fake it
). This area, forested and focused around a campground, will have rare and special items to be gathered, harvested, fished, etc. The homes, like all of the others in the world, will be on a 10x10 lot. However, these need to be extra special! Since they have to be small, I’d like them to be very high quality... a super comfortable and attractive home!
I'm looking for four homes, each on a 10x10 lot, that give the ultimate in decoration and comfort moodlets. Every single room, and the outdoors if possible, will preferably give the highest Decorated moodlet. Every comfort item (chair, bed, couch) will preferably give the highest bonus to comfort. I know it will be difficult to match highest quality with your design vision, so I will accept the second highest moodlet for both Decorated and Comfortable as well, but you'll get less points for it. I encourage you to think of more ways to include other positive moodlets, such as incense holders, flame fruit, etc. Believe me, there are lots more. I just want to leave it to your imagination!
Objective:
Create a woodsy home on a 10x10 lot that gives positive moodlets.
Prizes:
There will be four winners, each receiving the same prize package:
* 400 points in gifts from the Sims 3 Store (may be split up to gift friends)
* Winning entry included in my world
* Acknowledgment on the world website and in the world itself
Alternately, a winner may choose to exchange their 400 points of gifts for a recommendation of every item in their studio. This is a provision for those who don't want any EA Store items but have a large studio.
Each participant who is not one of the final four winners will receive a participation gift worth up to 50 points.
Home Requirements:
You may check the moodlets given by a room by walking a sim into it. Do not test with a Can't Stand Art sim. For information on specific moodlets, visit
http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Moodlets
Each room must give the following:
- Beautifully Decorated (+40) or Nicely Decorated (+25) moodlet
At least two rooms must give the following:
- Enjoying Music moodlet (No minimum or maximum quality required. This should be via a method that does not take up a sim's time. For example, it should not require a sim to play an instrument to receive the moodlet.)
All comfort objects (chair, couch, bed, etc.) must give the following:
- Comfy moodlet with either +++ or ++ quality (this can be seen in the item description pop up)
No room may give the following:
- Unfinished Room moodlet
- It's Dark moodlet
- Dirty, Filthy or Vile Surroundings moodlet
Lot size must be 10x10.
There is no floor limit. You may build up or down as far as you are able.
There is no cost limit. Go as expensive as you want!
The home exterior must match the environment of a forest. Suggested styles are cabin, lodge, campground, fairy. Be creative! Frank Lloyd Wright showed that
modern styles can match their environment, but realize that an ultra-modern steel box looks out of place in the middle of a forest. The interior does not need to match a particular style.
Each home must have at least:
- 1 Living (common) Room
- 1 Kitchen
- 1 Dining area
- 1 Bathroom
- 1 Bedroom
I encourage you to make the home livable for at least two sims and to include some skill objects. This isn't required, but it affects scoring.
Rules:
All entries must be submitted by 10:00 pm EST (GMT -5) on April 22, 2011. To convert this to your own time zone, visit
http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc
No third party CC may be used. This includes patterns. Lots will be checked using Custard, and any CC found must be removed before the submission will be accepted. I will attempt to give notice when I am able, but this is the submitter’s responsibility.
All EA items may be used. This includes EP, SP, Store, T-Mobile and Dr. Pepper items.
You may use cheats such as buydebug, moveobjects and constrainfloorelevation. HOWEVER, building all the way to the edge of the lot is not encouraged. You may do this, but remember that you are normally prohibited from building to the edge of the lot for a reason. If I import your lot into my game and flooring creating with CFE is not flat, it will count negatively against your lot. This often happens when a balcony extends to the very edge of the lot.
Submissions must be made using the following entry form in a single post in this thread.
- Creator's name:
- Lot name:
- Download link:
- Description:
- Rooms that give Enjoying Music moodlet:
- Additional moodlets (not including the required moodlets) & items that grant them:
- Screenshots:
For the additional moodlets, keep in mind that each object will only be counted once for points regardless of how many moodlets it grants (comfort objects are counted under the comfort section). It doesn't hurt to list each positive moodlet it gives, however, as there is different scoring for different types of moodlets. Please check out the scorecard section (post #2) for more information.
While it isn't required to add the lot name in game, that would be helpful to me and I would appreciate it. Winning entries will have the creator's name added to the in game description.
Screenshots - The following screenshots must be included (no photoshopping/editing allowed):
- One full front view of the home (from ground to top of the roof)
- One top-down (bird's eye) view of each floor
- One eye-level view of one room on each floor (kitchen, bedroom, etc.)
- Any other pictures you feel show off the home. There is no limit on the number that may be used.
NOTE: If you break the thread with your pictures, your entry will not be accepted until it has been fixed. Please see the FAQ for information on adding a screenshot without breaking the thread.
The submission must be uploaded to the Exchange or, due to technical difficulties, another file sharing site such as MediaFire.
You may enter as many times as you like. There is no limit to the number of times you may win. This is so I don't have to keep a lovely home out of my world just because it was made by someone who won with another home.
You may edit your lot and entry as many times as you want before the deadline. If you upload a different version of the house, please post and let me know so that I can download the new file.
Entries must not have been submitted to another contest or appear in another custom world.
The submission must be your own idea and work. It cannot be a remodel of another's lot.
By entering this contest, you agree to have your entry added to my world and uploaded to the Exchange or other site.
Your entry will not be accepted until all requirements have been met, so please ask if you are unsure about your entry!
I reserve the right to change the rules, prizes, scoring, etc. as I see fit. I will give notice in the form of a post whenever this is done.
I reserve the right to disqualify those who I feel are disrespectful to contestants, myself or others in this thread.
A big Thank You to my proofreaders for helping me prepare!
Comments
The scoring is set up so that any home which does not meet the minimum moodlet requirements cannot win based on its other merits. This is also grounds for disqualification.
The scorecard is used for judging purposes. I have included it here so that you know what is being judged and how you may earn/lose points. It has been tested to emphasize the points I find most important.
Scorecard:
Decorated moodlet: (If any rooms do not provide the Nicely or Beautifully Decorated moodlets, grant 0 points and mark the home for disqualification. If each room provides the Nicely Decorated moodlet, grant 10 points. If the rooms provide a mixture of the Nicely and Beautifully Decorated moodlets, grant 15 points. If each room provides the Beautifully Decorated moodlet, grant 20 points.)
Comfy moodlet: (If any comfort objects do not provide ++ or +++ bonuses to comfort, grant 0 points and mark the home for disqualification. If each comfort object provides ++ bonus to comfort, grant 8 points. If comfort objects provide a mixture of ++ and +++ bonuses to comfort, grant 12 points. If each comfort object provides +++ bonuses to comfort, grant 16 points. Note that this includes any comfort objects used outside of the home.)
Enjoying Music moodlet: (If less than two rooms have non-instrument music-playing objects in them, grant 0 points and mark the home for disqualification. Otherwise, grant 4 points for each room that has a non-instrument music-playing object in it. Up to 16 points may be granted total.)
Additional moodlets: (Grant 1 point per additional positive moodlet object that requires interaction from the sim. Grant 2 points per additional positive moodlet objects that do not require interaction from the sim. Each object may only be counted once. This does not include decoration or comfort bonuses as these are already included in the previous moodlets. Optional: You may grant an additional 1 point per object for creativity. Up to 20 points may be granted total. Additional positive moodlets may be counted once per room. For example, two fireplaces in the living room will only be counted once as the sim doesn't receive additional moodlets or benefits from the extra fireplace.)
Architecture: (Grant 0-5 points for attractive and/or interesting architectural design. Keep in mind that the house should match its environment.)
Landscaping: (Grant 0-5 points for attractive landscaping. Grant an additional 3 points for a Nicely Decorated moodlet when outside or an additional 6 points for a Beautifully Decorated moodlet when outside.)
Interior Design: (Grant 0-10 points for attractive interior design. Grant an additional 1 point per sim, up to 8 total, that can live in the home. This can be determined by the amount of sleeping spaces and dining spaces.)
Functionality: (Grant 0 points if two or more objects cannot be used in their intended manner due to being blocked or otherwise inaccessible. Grant 1 point if only one object cannot be used due to being blocked or otherwise inaccessible. Grant 3 points for fully functional homes. Optional: Grant an additional 2 points for well-planned homes that are easy to navigate.)
Miscellaneous Bonus: (Grant up to 10 additional points for particularly creative or attractive homes. Bonuses must be noted and justified.)
Miscellaneous Deductions: (Deduct up to 10 points for particularly mundane or unattractive homes. Deductions must be noted and justified.)
Total Points: (121 total points possible.)
This FAQ is a work in progress. Please contact me if you have any questions.
How Do I Take a Screenshot in The Sims 3?
To take a screenshot in game, press C or click on the camera icon. In Create-a-Sim, you will have to press C as the camera icon is unavailable. To obtain a bit more freedom in moving the camera and seeing your picture, press Tab before lining up your shot. This removes your interface and allows you to use the w, a, s & d keys as well as q & e to move the camera. Press Tab again to return to the normal view.
Where Are My Screenshots Saved?
Screenshots are saved in the folder Screenshots within The Sims 3 folder within Electronic Arts in your documents folder. The exact location will vary depending upon your operating system. On Windows 7, the location may be found by opening Windows Explorer and selecting Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Screenshots. I recommend never modifying your original screenshot. If you have to make any changes to it, save it in a new location. This is just a suggestion for those who, like me, are afraid of losing that perfect shot!
How Do I Post Pictures Without Breaking the Thread?
NOTE: All tags such as [*IMG] should be typed without the *. This is included so that you can view the tags in this FAQ.
Paste the URL for your picture into your post wherever you want the picture you appear. Highlight the entire URL and click the IMG button. (Alternatively, you can just type [*IMG] before the URL and [/IMG] after the URL.) To resize your screenshot to fit in the thread, add a space after the picture URL and then type "width=600". Your code should now look like:
[*IMG]http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n155/Traanse/The Sims/Screenshot-346.jpg "width=600"[/IMG]
If you want to add another screenshot to the same post, just follow the same steps and paste it into your post on a different line. Be sure to add that "width=600"!
How Do I Post a Screenshot Using Photobucket?
NOTE: All tags such as [*IMG] should be typed without the *. This is included so that you can view the tags in this FAQ.
If you don't already have a Photobucket account, you can register one for free. Go to http://photobucket.com, make sure you're logged in, and click on the Upload Now button at the top of the screen. Select to which album you want to upload the screenshot. Click on the big Select Photos and Videos button. Choose your screenshot and click Open. Your screenshot will upload. When the upload has finished, select Save and Continue to My Album. Locate the thumbnail of your uploaded picture. Mouse over it (don't click anything yet!) and you'll see several options on a pop-up box. Locate the line for IMG Code and click in the field next to it that contains the picture code. The code has been automatically copied to your clipboard. When creating your post on The Sims 3 forum, paste this code into your post. It should look something like:
[*IMG]http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n155/Traanse/The Sims/Screenshot-346.jpg[/IMG]
COMPLETE THE NEXT STEP SO YOU DON'T BREAK THE THREAD WITH AN OVERSIZED PICTURE!
To resize your screenshot to fit in the thread, add a space after the picture URL and then type "width=600". Your code should now look like:
[*IMG]http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n155/Traanse/The Sims/Screenshot-346.jpg "width=600"[/IMG]
If you want to add another screenshot to the same post, just follow the same steps and paste it into your post on a different line. Be sure to add that "width=600"!
How Do I Access BuyDebug?
Switch to Buy mode on the lot. Press Control+Shift+C all at the same time. A text box will display at the top of your screen. In this box, type the following: testingcheatsenabled true Press Enter. In the same box, type the following: buydebug on (Some have said that you don't need to type "on", just "buydebug", but I always do anyway. Habit.) A new category with a ? icon will show up in your Buy view. This has certain, but not all, hidden items in it.

This has been the most intense judging I've ever done because of all of the playtesting and checking that went into it. Until I put all of the scores side by side at the end, I didn't know who my winners were going to be. Lots that I loved and thought would be winners were passed by ones that excelled at high decoration moodlets and comfort bonuses on top of skill building items as well as good design. I've very happy with my winners and think they represent the spirit of the contest, but I found something to love in every entry. I couldn't bear to lose any of those awesome features... so I decided I won't! Read on to see how!
I've decided to pick three honorable mentions in addition to the four winners of the contest. These honorable mentions were very close in score to the top four and showed good attention to detail and/or design. I will be putting them in the reward area of my world and giving them a little something extra (200 points each).
For all other participants, the houses were absolutely wonderful and I'd like to reward everyone with a little something from their wishlist (up to 75 points). As I said before, there wasn't a house entered in the contest that I wouldn't be happy and proud to have in my world, so my extra prize on top of the wishlist gift is to put every single entry in the valley section of the world! Your house may end up on the beach, in the modern neighborhood or, for many of them, in the outdoorsman area near the lake. Luckyheather, I'd still like to use your Whitby lot even though it didn't qualify for the contest. I will remove the pattern using Custard and place it on the creepy hill with the other gothic home!
Thank you everyone for the hard work and innovation you showed. 10x10s have a special place in my heart, and I've just fallen in love with these homes. I guess that's obvious since I'm making a world for little lots! Whisperingtruth's adorable garden, originalsim's fantastical tower, Valgon's elegant home... I can't wait to play with these and the other lots when the world is ready!
Please post to let me know what you would like! You're welcome to have part or all of it gifted to someone else. Please just link their wishlist for me.

For those who had some functionality problems that I can't resolve by just moving an item a smidge, I'll drop you a comment over the next day or two to make sure you're okay with the changes I need to make to your lot. And I'll work on getting the acknowledgment page on my site updated!
(Sorry that wasn't much of a question, I just wanted to ask! )
I'll get spring cleaning done one day
Absolutely. Post your pictures however works best for you. I give the example of Photobucket as that's what I use.
10x10 lots can be challenging, but they can be super cute, too! I'm glad to see some interest.
I can't make any promises other than I will try - I have been working a lot and unfortunately have had some things come up that have led me to not have any down time, but I reeeeaaaalllly want to do this!
This is how I have to approach almost every contest I want to enter, so don't worry about it! I look forward to seeing an entry if you find the time.
Me too. I always want to enter all these contests, but lately it feels like I want to and then the deadline flies by and then I feel guilty because I wanted to participate...
Yes, I count them as floors. There's no limit for the contest, although I think the game has a built in limit of around 4 basement levels. I'm not certain.

NOTE: Some objects in the pictures may not be in the exact spot when you download the house... I had to re-arrange a little to make all objects accessible...
- One eye-level view of one room on each floor (kitchen, bedroom, etc.)
It's just a regular view (not top-down) of a room on each floor to see what a sim will see when walking around.
Some contest hosts don't comment on entries so that they don't appear to favor any... I can't resist gushing about things I like, so my goal is to say one thing, and only one thing, about each entry. xD
THANKS! and I'll add more pics soon
Gouka its a very nice competition, the small lot makes it seems like it should be able to get time for it, - even thoug you do have a lot of rules!!! If i have time in the weekend i might see if i can some up with something
