Sims 3 Digital Download Troubles - Installation stops after inputting key

I purchased the Sims 3 via the digital download through GameStop back when it was released. It worked fine on my old Windows XP desktop, but now I have a laptop that runs on Windows 7 and I am having problems with the installation. Everything seems to install fine until I get to the part where I need to enter the serial key. I enter it, click "Next" and then nothing happens. I've tried running in Administrator mode, I've tried running in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP 2, nothing works, the installation just stops. What can I do to get the installation to complete properly?

I don't know if this is needed, but here are my system specs:

Could be the firewall or antivirus is stopping the activation process.

Gamestop uses a third party (they are not saying who) to handle their downloadable games. I don't know if their licensing is the same as EA. TS3 download uses SecuROM for activation. If you can't get it to work you'll have to contact Gamestop customer support. Do you have the original email with the product key? Supposedly there was details about the licensing in it.
I do not work for EA nor do I have any association with EA. I am a gamer helping other gamers.

No, I no longer have that email. I'll try emailing GameStop about it. Thanks for your help.
