Dream Expansion One: The Sims 3: Love

I know it's ridiculous to dream up a full plan for an EP like this, but it's fun and there's always the off chance that someone in EA will pick up an idea here before it's swallowed up in the chatter. Almost certainly too late to influence a planned TS3 EP, but gosh it'd be awesome to see something like this in TS4, or even just a few features from it implemented.

I got to thinking about how cool it would be to have a really solid "Romance" themed-pack that also introduced swimable/usable water. This feature would be patched into the game but not compatible with previous worlds - however a simultaneous CAW update would allow custom worlds with swimmable oceans and all future worlds would have swimmable oceans. Only coastal ocean that was marked "swim routable" in CAW would be swimmable. Water can be so romantic, especially if the town featured a big moonlit bay, so it seems appropriate: a wealthy port city with a beautiful marina featuring houseboats (a new kind of shell/residential lot), and several mellow beaches. On the waterfront there would be several new lot types: Carnival, Restaurant, Aquarium, Gift Shop.

Interactions
- A main feature of the pack would be dating and relationships, and these lots would stress that. Dating would be similar to grouping up and also similar to the mini-game in The Sims 2, but with a pink orbiting plumbob (of course). The 🐸🐸🐸🐸 Matchmaker would return as a service NPC.
- Gifting would return. Different items would have different effects when dating, for example gifting bad fruit would make dates worse, and gifting boxes of chocolates from the gift shop would make dates better.
- Alongside the "Gift" interaction at night Kleptomaniacs would get a "Pickpocket" interaction that would randomly steal an object from a targeted Sim's inventory. The interaction would fail if the targeted Sim's inventory was empty. Brave, Can Apprehend Burglar, and Perceptive Sims automatically catch Kleptomaniacs which results in a police call out and some jail time like in the criminal career.
- Dating is only the beginning of a relationship: Weddings would be expanded, Elder Sims could renew vows, and an anniversary system could come into play. Married couples would need to go on occasional dates to keep their relationship mini-bar filled, otherwise they would get negative moodlets about the "magic fizzling out".
- Child Sims would be able to develop "Crushes" and go on "Play Dates" with them to the Carnival and Aquarium lots.

Skills
- Violin, a straightforward music skill like piano or guitar. Can't join bands.
- Swimming, allows for different styles of locomotion in the water. A level ten Sims can learn "Dolphin Dive" and keep pace with dolphins. Sims can challenge each other to race laps at the local pool.
- Illusion, a simple magic skill that allows Sims to do basic illusions like disappearing in a puff of smoke, pulling toy rabbits out of hats, and making bunchs of flowers appear out of nowhere. Magician NPCs will perform this skill on lots. This is not supernatural magic, only trickery.
- Cork-gun (Hidden)
- Dating (Hidden)
- Dolphin Tricks (Hidden, dolphin only)
- Sea shells added to collectibles, dug up from new spawners on beaches.
- One True Love Fruit added to gardening skill. Gifting this to another Sim will give them the "One True Love" relationship status with you and instant marriage. The downside is if you divorce them they will become a "Spurned Love" and turn up on your lot crying and playing a sad song on the violin every weekend night. This fruit can only be gifted by a Sim once, and Sims can only have one One True Love at a time, but they can have multiple Spurned Loves.

Simology

Attraction
- This would be the major addition. Sims would be attracted to a trait, a star sign, and an occult status (for most Sims this would be "none"), and they would be turned off by all incompatible traits plus one trait of the player's choice. All attraction scoring would be based on this system.

Traits
- The new Water Baby trait would make Sims learn the swimming skill faster, and give them some unique swimming strokes and diving moves. They would get wishes to move into a houseboat.
- Cunning Sims would be naturals at the Illusionist skill.
- Artistic and Virtuoso would improve skill gain on the Violin.
- Hopeless Romantic would provide a huge boost on dates and be the core "dating" trait.

Ghosts
- The new ghost would be death by Broken Heart. If a Sim's current One True Love dies then this Sim dies as well. The resulting ghost is pastel pink, cries a lot, and will autonomously mourn their One True Love's grave if it is placed on the same lot.

Mermaids
- I'm torn as to the possible new occult Sims, either mermaids, or "seasims" based on the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I favour mermaids with a similar hereditary system to vampires. Mermaids would generally be normal looking Sims with an overlay of soft turquoise scales, alongside gills on the neck. They would have no bladder motives, and their hygiene motive would be replaced with "Hydration". Mermaids would get stinky and ill if they spent too much time out of water. When bathing or swimming their legs would fuse into a fish tail, and they'd have a unique set of swimming animations. However this would cause hilarious problems if they showered as they tried to balance on their tails and at the end of the shower fell out. Like vampirism this occult status wouldn't hit entirely until Young Adulthood, and ideally they could be hybridised with vampires. While swimming, or in hottubs and baths, they would have unique and powerful romantic interactions, including "Siren Songs" that could turn all nearby Sims into love interests automatically. Mermaids would be incompatible with the Angler trait and they'd get upset if they saw Sims eating dishes with fish as an ingredient.

Lots

Carnival
- This would be a 64x64 lot with a glowing ferris wheel and a 'tunnel of love' rabbit hole. There would be numerous stalls including a cork-gun gallery where Sims could win prizes. This lot would draft townies to become Magician and Clown NPCs. Sims would buy cotton candy which would improve their dating scores.

Restaurant
- Waiter NPCs would serve meals to couples. One waiter would be drafted for every six dining chairs on the lot. Several new dishes could only be learned by eating them twice in a restaurant. Violinist NPCs would wander the bar serenading dining Sims. If LN is installed bars placed here will serve romantic drinks. If WA is installed waiters will all carry the French hidden trait. Sims with Cooking Skill can click the stove on this lot and "Moonlight as Cook" to earn cash. They are paid per meal, according to meal quality.

Aquarium
- This is the lot that would make Sims into Mermaids. The lot would feature large fish tanks where Sims could donate/view fish in "natural" aquatic environments. If a 6x6 or larger pool is built on this lot it will generate a dolphin NPC that sims can swim with and befriend. If there is a dolphin pool on this lot and a Sim swims in it five days in a row then that Sim will transform into a mermaid the next time they enter water. Mermaids and Anglers would love this lot and they'd get into brawls when they met. The lot would raise the chances of the successful date and provide a unique moodlet.

Gift Shop
- This shop would function like a consignment store or market. Sims could buy chocolates, flowers, etc. All items that would affect the outcomes of dates and the status of relationships.

Other
- Pods of dolphins would sometimes pass through the swimmable water in the bay. They would play with Sims and show up in the relationship panel. These dolphins would be "Sims" in that they have motives and can be befriended and even made into pets if the family's lot has a pool bigger than 6x6 squares. They would have two lifestages: Calf and Adult. Dolphins would have small variances in skin pattern, dorsal fin shape, and snout length. Sims could teach adopted dolphins one or two tricks, but would also have to feed them fish and swim with them regularly. Mermaids would have huge success in befriending dolphins and be able to summon rare pink and albino ones that only appear in the wild. Later, in a pets expansion, dolphins would become breedable. Dolphins have a unique tombstone when they die and haunt lots by swimming through the air. Dolphins can only die of old age or starvation.
