Go here for what fixed my game http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/0/261737.page#3479215 I had base game and all EPs and the HELS stuff pack installed. When I installed the
patch 1.15.34 it brought my base game to
Version 0.0.0.0 . An Uninstall of EADM and RE-Install of the current version did not help. I did a manual uninstall of base game and all eps and hels. Reinstalled base game and manually updated to 1.4.6.0001. When I installed WA ( retail version/ disc) it prompted me to update with the EADM so it patched to 1.15.34 and brought the base game back to version 0.0.0.0 again.
Another manual uninstall of WA and Base game.
I tried installing base game ( without installing EADM) then manually updating to 1.4.6.00001. Which worked. I played the game for 5 minutes and save and quit.
Then inserted WA disc ( which has the next update) and then I was prompted to install the most current EADM and update my game ....I tried to get the game to manually update without installing EADM and I could do nothing...so I followed the prompts and installed EADM and it patched up through 1.15.34 and then my base game went to 0.0.0.0 version and I had a blue box with a message " a startup error has occured. Please see log".
I uninstalled TS3 and WA and EADM ( both) ( in that order) with the vista control Panel prompts for "uninstall a program" and then reinstalled the base game ( unchecking the EADM box, bypassing installing it) and tried the same thing again with the same results.
Next I un-installed WA and TS3 and EADM using the manual method ( being sure to delete game files ( in default location), back up registry, delete registry keys and delete uninstall files)
Shut down my computer.
Re-installed my base game ( unchecking the box for installing EADM) and again manually updated the first two patches. Game works fine again. I downloaded the most current EDAM and ran the patch with the same results. " startup error " We tried using a direct link to start the game with the same results.
I did another Manual uninstall of Base and both EADM, as stated above.
I Reinstalled the base game again and patched to 1.4.6.00001 . It works fine and I played for over an hour with no problems. Save and Quit. This is where I am again.
As of now only base game is installed. I have the English Retail version. ( 1.0.631.00001) which is patched to 1.4.6.0001.I have tried to contact you through EA Support/My Questions but it tells me my Username is invalid, this is odd because my "my page " works fine and I am able to purchase simpoints and buy Store Content.
I have run the DxDiag but of course I can not send it to you.
Comments
What I suggest in this case is to manually update each game before installing the next one. If you have EADM running, you will want to disable it or even uninstall it first.
For the purposes of manually patching without EADM, you can check out the following sticky thread for official EA download links for the manual cumulative updates:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/175477.page
For your version 1.4.6.0001 base game, I suggest downloading and applying the following standalone base game Super Patcher:
http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims/sims3/patches/TS3_1.15.34.008001_Update.exe
Note that the standalone patch is self executable, meaning you can simply download it to your Windows desktop and run the setup installer directly. Other than ensuring that the game and launcher are not running, no further setup is required.
If you should receive a patch error message stating that the installed version of the game could not be determined, it is advised that you run the patcher as an administrator. You can do this by logging into Windows via an administrator account or by right-clicking on the patch installer and then selecting "Run as Administrator."
When you have successfully patched the base game, install the next expansion pack as you normally would and then patch that game fully by using the appropriate cumulative patcher listed in the thread noted above. Repeat the process for each expansion that is installed afterwards.
I have been manually installing the base game patches from here http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/188505.page
I installed all the way to 1.11.7.005001 and it gives me an error "There was an error during startup. Please see log for details." ( I was able to play after the first two patches but when I installed the remaining patches for base game I did not check if I could play after each one)
I thought maybe I needed more patches to fix this error so I installed WA an patched through 2.6.11 but I am still getting this error.
I had base game, WA, HELS and Ambitions installed and working until this last patch 1.15.34. I am at a total loss as to what to do.....I don't want to have to uninstall again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

As of late last night I had reinstalled the base game and patched manually up to 1.4.6.00001
(second patch for base game) and the game was working fine.
Today I decided to manually install the base game patches so I continued with each incremental patches. Unfortunately, I did not check between the patches so when I got to 1.11.7.00501 I opened the game and it gave me the same start up error....... Thank you to D again for spending the time to help me find the info I needed. This poor woman has spent the weekend trying to help me.
As, I have become a professional at manually uninstalling the base game I did it again in record time..... I reinstalled the base game without installing EADM.
Again I used this tutorial by Armiel and followed it exactly.... http://armielsims.blogspot.com/2010/04/tutorial-how-to-make-clean-un-install.html
Debbi thought it would be smart for me to play the game at 1.0.631.00001 ( US retail region) which is what I am doing now. Everything seems to work fine, CAS, Buy/build, I can use the TAB key and others to take screenshots. To me, this would mean that my disc info is not corrupted and works fine.
My plan is to install each base game patch incrementally . Play and Save/Quit after each patch. Maybe I can pinpoint where I am getting this error.
Here is my lovely base game sim. Here name is Fresh Start. She is a natural cook, handy, an angler, neat ,and has a green thumb. Her lifetime wish is to be a Culinary Librarian.
Let's not tell her she is about the fourth Fresh Start that has been made! :lol!:
I will keep you posted...wish me luck, I am afraid I am going to need it.

I'm assuming Base Game is the only thing you have installed right now. Correct?
Then to double check the game version numbers.
To find game version numbers for each pack installed (there are 2 sets of lines, 1 for 32bit, 1 for 64bit. I don't know yours, so provided both)
Open another internet browser window, then one at a time, copy paste the below lines into the address bar and hit enter. It should open a little text file that you can copy paste back into a reply here.
Only do the lines for the games you have.
For 32bit Windows (Assuming Sims is installed to the default drive)
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\skuversion.txt
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures\Game\Bin\skuversion.txt
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 High-End Loft Stuff\Game\Bin\skuversion.txt
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Ambitions\Game\Bin\skuversion.txt
For 64bit Windows (Assuming Sims is installed to the default drive)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\skuversion.txt
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures\Game\Bin\skuversion.txt
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 High-End Loft Stuff\Game\Bin\skuversion.txt
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Ambitions\Game\Bin\skuversion.txt
Your original problem probably could have been solved with 1 or 2 manual patches.
Once the uninstalling reinstalling starts, it opens the possibilty of more errors.
That incremental patches you have been using has a flaw, not necessarily flawed enough to give you the current error but still a flaw.
I know you are aware of at least part of;
Patch 1.6.6 - (Patch Notes)
This patch is replaced by 1.7.9. You can skip this patch and use the 1.7.9 version.
Patch 1.5.82 - (Patch Notes)
<DVD drive:>\Support\Updates
Files for this version are available in the above path of your EP01:World Adventures DVD. The WA installer will automatically run this patch before installing WA, if your base game is still at patch versions lower than this.
If you should happen to uninstall the Base Game again try and use the below links to update the Base Game
http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims/sims3/patches/Sims3_1.12.70.006001_from_1.0.631.00001.exe

For me it's better organized and easier to use.

and this chart for the order http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Patching:Common_Errors
Be sure that you DO NOT have EADM installed until you install Fastlane. By this I mean, uninstall EADM , after each sp or ep be sure to UNCHECK the box that installs the EADM. Only check this box when you have installed Fastlane. Make sure Auto Update is unchecked in your launcher. I didn't find this chart until I was through the HELS patches. I was getting a start up error but when I had the patches ( or patches and expansions) installed in the order of the chart the game worked. For me it happened at 07/2010 line. I think if you start from the beginning following this chart you will not have any errors.
I hope this helps someone.
Thanks to debbi2qlts who held my hand and kept me going through this whole mess. If it wasn't for you I would have given up.
