Possible How To for Installing patches

Ok I think I've worked out how to do this but it's a stupid process and it may or may not work for you.

Install The Sims 3 base package and update it to the latest version

Install The Sims 3 expansion pack of your choice (mine was World Adventures)

Reinstall the original The Sims 3 game

Run the The Sims 3 expansion pack and it should ask you to update so try running the update and it should now work but you still won't be able to play the expansion pack because of the game being out of date so close down the expansion pack

Run the original The Sims 3 and it should ask you to update so do so and once done close down the original The Sims 3 and rerun the expansion pack title you want to play

If all goes well you should be able to play the game properly now.
