Making some textures for CAP with Gimp...

Well, here I go again. Please be patient~ I hardly ever get it right the first time.

I have Gimp, a free photo editing program. Open it and make a new 256x256 image.
OpenGimp.jpg"width=400"

There are several Artistic options under Filters - One is Clothify. Nice...

1Gimp.jpg"width=500"

Must lightened it up...

BrightContrast.jpg"width=500"

There is a Mosaic under Distorts...
Mosaica.jpg"width=500"

You need to add an Alpha Channel...
Alphaa.jpg"width=500"

Then remove the white (middle) so another texture can show through with the select by color/ then cut...
*Use the Color Select tool on the white parts to highlight them and then edit/cut to remove the white or unwanted parts.
removecolor.jpg"width=500"

You can see the Alpha Channel through it- it's done...
Alphathrough.jpg"width=500"

Transparency need to be saved as .png and only these ...
selectcut-1.jpg"width=500"

Here are Clothify/Mosaic/Cubism/Spray painted . . .
Different.jpg

Open CAP and use the + Add New Sticker icon...
OpenCAP.jpg"width=500"

This is the Clothify in blue... full picture.
Texture.jpg"width=500"

The Mosaic over Corroded Metal...

I hope it helps for a start and I explained it well enough... :mrgreen:

***To use a White Sticker as a changeable sticker you must toggle it to Fill in CAP. This will remove the texture but give it color.

~If you want texture and being able to change the color then give the image a color in Gimp before you import it into CAP

    Very sweet of you to do this for people Rflong. I don't use gimp personally, but alot of the same applys to photoshop as well. Tutorials like these will really help people branch out beyond copy and paste and really start producing some unique patterns of their own!

    I like the last picture, it really goes will with the wood. Have you uploaded it? Great idea for doing a tutorial with free programmes that everyone and anyone can download. Tops to you!

    Can you explain what you are doing between these two steps? I must be missing something because nothing happens when I select by color. I don't understand what I am cutting. thank you.

    **Edit.. nevermind.. I figured it out.. you actually have to click on the image between the color select and cut steps.

    :) It's assumed the user has a bit of knowledge using gimp and I don't so I was being to literal going step by step and I had blinders on.

    I sure hope this gets a sticky at the top of the forum, too. Most helpful. LOL, makes me wish I had GIMP. I hope a Photoshop user will post a tutorial, too. I've had CS3 since soon after it was released and really haven't learned to do anything with it except crop and resize photos, :)

    I tried to do it step by step but noticed I would do something and then think about what I did. I am sorry to have missed it. :mrgreen:

    I remember trying to figure it out and I still have to remember where some things are in Gimp~ I mostly use it for resizing pictures. :lol:

    Hi, Dolldrms :mrgreen:

    Lol! Maybe someone can do a basic one for Photoshop and this can be added to theirs. Or corrected. :wink:

    I found a "Royalty Free Icons & Clipart Stock Images" site.

    They have some great outlines... I looked at the Magic Marker icons.

    I right click on the picture after going to the page and save- open in Gimp and they already have the transparent background so I only had to resize them to 256x256.

    Some fun ones- Cows and puppy prints. :lol:

    hehehee... (It's also one of my funny pattern.)

    And yes (from another thread), some of the pattern not look sharp in the real game. But some of my stickers are made from the bigger picture and CAP reduce it.
