Last Name of Child Changed to Step Parent

Hi all,
A quick question on a problem that I keep having. The last name of the child keeps changing to that of their step parent when their birth mother re-marries. The geneology is fine, just the last name is wrong.
I have tried moving the child in with the original father but once the mom remarries the child's last name changes to that of their step father. Does anyone have a work around to this problem?
