Ctrl-shift-c froze game

Earlier today tried TS3 for a change of pace. Took some getting used to, but got sim made and moved into an empty lot in Riverview. Decided to cheat in some extra $ to boost the building fund. The only result of entering the code was that the on-screen view darkened, and the game became totally unresponsive to either keyboard or mouse. Wound up needing to go to task manager to end the process.

Any ideas on what happened, why, and how to avoid a repeat in the event I try the game again?

Finally discovered the cause. The cheat code window, at least on my machine, is dark grey. The mentioned attempt was at night so never saw it.
