I'm asking because I was hoping to build an apartment building and (lightly) decorate the some parts of it with like a lobby/common area, hallways, elevators, etc. Can I use the 150k to decorate his apartment alone? And "not count" the rest of it since technically it won't be his property?

Actually was wondering the same thing, but I haven't answered my own question.. lol so can we?

OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM #151**Curtis. Douglas Curtis… The Third**

    NAME: iampes23

LINK TO LOT: one without Curtis: http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=8448499

    one with Curtis: http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=8448498

    LINK TO MEDIA:
    http://s97.photobucket.com/user/iampes23/slideshow/151 Douglas Curtis III

OPTIONAL CHALLENGE: there was not one

    LEVEL: intermediate

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 64x64 on Pinochle Point, $149,974

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: Douglas Alvin Curtis, III is an adventurous daredevil, and athletic snob, and a general schmoozer. He travels around the world hunting ghosts, preforming stunts, and searching through pyramids. He has a secret ambition to be an astronaut. He loves lobster thermidor, disco, and the color spice brown. His life time ambition is to be crowned the Great Explorer! He loves to be flatter and has tons of trophies and awards (some merely copies, others not really his) displayed all over his home to invite compliments and interest. He thinks he is impressive, since he has an exploration show on an obscure cable channel. He also thinks every girl is madly in love with his good looks, often to the chagrin of the girl! His futuristic/modern tastes are blended with his artifact "finds" (or steals?) to create a unique apartment fit for a king-wanna-be. (He brought his car with him, so it is not included in the price of the lot. The second lot, with Curtis, has some minor flaws that I found and corrected, which initially lowered the lot's price, but the added car increased the price.
The lot itself was a new build project from a local builder( okay, it was me :D ), who had not yet rented out any of the 3 apartments. This was perfect since Mr. Curtis wanted a penthouse suite.

OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM: Challenge No. 151 Curtis Douglas the Third

    NAME: Mederouin

LINK TO LOT: If I can manage to get it to upload... :\

    LINK TO MEDIA: s1380.photobucket.com/user/mederouin/slideshow/Build%20and%20Share%20151
Password: Explore (Note, is case sensitive.) Sorry if the photos are a bit out of order, I will try to order them on Friday if that isn't too late.

    OPTIONAL CHALLENGE: N/A

    LEVEL: Intermediate

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: Size, 40X30, Address: 180 Redwood pkwy, Sunset Valley, Final Cost: 149,793

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: Right off the bat I would like to say that I really ran out of time, but I really liked what I did finish so I thought it would be a waste not to get some feedback on it. For this project I wanted to build this sort of modern apartment building that would be a welcome change for Curtis who is usually surrounded by ruins and the old-world when adventuring, but I also wanted to bring some of his finds into his home so there are some more rustic furnishings. I wanted to focus more on the interior for this one because apartment building are more of a utilitarian form and the only real expression that can be done is with the interior.

I don't know why, but this forum is refusing to allow me to post links again... :(

It was with much stifled, exasperated laughter that you accepted the profuse thanks of Douglas Curtis. The ever faithful (and merciless) Rose spent most of that interview pretending to be completely oblivious towards the hints and suggestions for dinners or drinks. Finally, after managing to cut the schmoozing and posturing short, you shut the door behind him and lean back against it. You lock eyes with Rose and both of you let out a deep, relieved sigh.

    “Close up early?” You ask.

“Drinks?” Rose responds with. You smile and turn to lock the door.

Barely have your fingers touched the deadbolt lock than you see a man and a woman coming up the walk. “Drinks are on pause Rose. Clients.” You grin, hearing Rose’s muffled profanity, then open the door graciously for the couple.

They look startled, then smile back. The woman strikes you as a very warm and friendly person, with sunny blonde hair and bright blue eyes. “Oh! How nice!” She says in a playful voice. Her husband smiles, “Great welcome.” Already balding and possessed of a close cropped bead, his eyes are just a blue and project a calm steadiness that make you feel like you’re reunited with an old friend.

“Thank you. Please come in.” You shut the door, then introduce yourself.

“I'm Don and this is my wife Judy. We’re here for a house.” He says.

“Great! Lets go back to my office.” You say, leading them back.

After many compliments on the interior decorating and the layout, Judy settles into her chair, folds her hands in her lap and then gets right to the heart of it. “Don and I are wanting a custom house. He’s the new fire chief and I'm a teacher. We've decided that since we’re going to spend the rest of our lives here, we want something exactly right.”

“Define ‘exactly right’.” You request, taking notes.

“Well, we both like colonial architecture, so that's what we would like for the exterior and the landscaping. But inside, we love modern interiors. My favorite color is blue and his is brown.”

“Minimum of 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and one half bath…but if you can put more bedrooms in that would be great.” Don interjects. “With a soaking tub. My hobby is woodworking so if you could put together a nice workshop for me that would be nice. Also, a 2 car garage.”

“None of that sounds like an issue.” You say confidently.

Judy smiles, “Well, there is one more thing….”

    “Okay.”

“Our parents are going to be coming out in a month. His mother and father and my mother. All three are retired, and they don't always get along. So rather than build on a wing or two for them, we've decided on separate houses. But we’ll get into that later. Lets just say we need a nice large lot and our new house to be positioned with that in mind.”

“Can do. What's my budget for this build?”

“Well, we were thinking about $75,000.” suggests Don. “That enough?”

“Sure. Will 2 weeks be soon enough?”

“Sure.” He stands up, holds out his hand. “Cant wait to see what you make.”

“Me too!” Judy chimes in, also shaking your hand before being escorted out by Rose.

You jot down a few more notes before Rose comes back, chirping “Doors locked!”

“Then lets go!” You say, grabbing your jacket.

    Requirements:

    • 2.5 Baths

I think I read somewhere that you need to have 30 post as well as 50 points, which seems excessive - but that could be wrong.

Okay then, well that's slightly irritating, but I guess I will eventually get there...

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: self placed (over 432 tidal terrace, barnacle bay). 64x64 lot. I lost track a little bit of the budget but its between 74,986 and 74,998.

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: I went with a Georgian colonial house and attached garage/workshop. I wanted to do a veg garden/orchard but the budget was a bit brutal so the enclosed garden is really just a skeleton at the minute which I tried to flesh out a little bit with terrain paint. I usually always make things white when I'm doing a modern style so I went with navy and blue/grey for the colour palette inside the house just to try and go outside my comfort zone. Also just to note in my defence I know the dining room chairs are lawn chairs and probably definitely not the most suitable choice for that room but I really wanted chairs with a cushion on to add some colour and they were the only chairs with cushions I could afford!

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 64x64, 10 Summer Hill Court, $75,000

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: I based the buildings on the homes and buildings found in Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. Since the colonists were more involved in surviving than decorating with landscape, the yard is fairly bare. The backyards always included a garden for food and flowers, so my home also has a fenced garden. I included a small sample of the inspirational pictures I based my house on at the end of the slideshow.

    LEVEL: Intermediate

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 50 X 50; 40 Summer Hill Court; Final Cost: 74,901

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: Colonial architecture is a wide and diverse set of styles that are still widely reproduced today some more true than others. For this project I wanted to go straight to the basics so I built a Saltbox Colonial to start with, five window across the front and an extended gable on the back, from there I wanted it to feel like a natural progression as time went on. The kitchen was added with the 1/2 bath (Yea for indoor plumbing) and the garage was drawn from the other side. The old outdoor kitchen outbuilding became the workshop. I wanted to try to make the house feel like it has a story to tell of a life lived if you will and all the changes it has gone through. For the inside I found it surprisingly difficult to find 'modern' furnishings that didn't clash so much with the exterior styling to that end I ended up trying to go in a contemporary direction with pieces that feel like they would be found in a newly built house, but with a nod to the time period the house is trying to be in, if that makes sense.

Thanks for all the support in trying to change my membership status, but I think it's on my end now with how many things I've posted because I know I have over 50 points now. So thanks for that, build and share has become something I look forward to doing biweekly. :)
