As part of a crafts/hobbies EP, this would be gold. It's something new (increasingly difficult after 15 years!) and it opens up a whole range of gameplay options - can you imagine how angry a chocolatier Sim would be if one of their friends chowed down on their masterpiece when it was half-done? Would definitely add to the Mischief skill of the chocolate thief. Plus, the possibility of spun sugar sculptures.

It's a little thing, but being able to make sweets (or "candy", if you're so inclined) would be a good thing to put in too. For some reason, the idea of making mints or boiled sweets really appeals to me. Perhaps it's just the idea of a Sims sweet shop.

I do think that the crafts need to put in another appearance. We've still got painting and writing along with the various musical instruments, but the sculpting skill is missed. It'd be a good time for an upgrade, perhaps stressing items that were unique to sculpting instead of making clay chairs. Knitting, sewing and embroidery would be welcome additions (even for people like me, who think being able to create a jumper from string is nothing short of witchcraft). Glassblowing/jewellery making was great in Sims 3, but like all premium content skills, it wasn't "built in" to the game in the same way. It could get the full works in Sims 4, since the Baking Skill came with books and was treated the same as any other EP skill.

All of this is making me miss the Hobby system and crafts available in Sims 2 Open for Business / Freetime. Secret lots anyone? Perhaps a Willy Wonka-esque chocolate factory or a fairytale gingerbread house?

Oh my god I'd love this so much.
There should also be an uncomfortable moodlet like "nauseous" granted to sims without sweet tooth/glutton/foodie if they eat sweets all day, and a long duration uncomfortable moodlet called "Cavity" or "Tooth Ache" that lasts like 2-3 days as the aftermath from candy consumption if they go extremely overboard LOL.
This would be cool if there were dentists as well, since it's relatable. I'd love to give sims root canals.
Feel the pain I suffered as a 11 year old candy hog, you spoiled sims!!

@annetesb - I think that's a great idea to have the new confectionary skill in freetime/craft type pack, where other skills and activities could be introduced too.

@FantiSci - I like your idea of a hidden lot. How 'bout a combo fantasy Gingerbread land with a chocolate factory with lickable walls! Yes, wallpapers, the sim could actually lick! :D We could use them in our sims home too, especially good for playful sims. The new collection could be edible candy flowers, that the sims could eat right there, or take back and grow in their home lots if they wished. We could also get to meet a wacky, playful type NPC that has maxed their confectionery skill. We could learn the skill faster from them, and if we be-friend them, they could 'tell us a secret': how to never get fat! Which would be a new reward trait. :D (Instead of Willy Wonka though, we could have something unique to the sims - maybe, Larikan Llama Larry. :p )

@Cement - nauseous buff would be a must, and love the idea of 'toothache'. :) I think Dentist would be a great idea for a career, though I can't imagine what the 10 levels would be. Maybe if they introduce the above hidden lot with a wakcy NPC, he could also reveal a new potion to cure toothache.

    @Simalleyaile
what if there was a good and a bad NPC in the candyland/gingerbredland?
bad inspired by a witch from Hans and Grete (not sure what they called in english)
they could also have sugar rush (not just a modlet, but your sim actually act crazy and runs around supper fast... but gets nearly nothing done... they have fun though... until the wear of)
I love the never get fat reward and flowers and walls
what about adding fortune coockies... that do more than just little fun notes.

Originally, I wanted ice cream to be included in this idea for a confectionery skill. Anything to do with SUGAR could build the confectionery skill, and there's heaps of sugar in ice cream. Instead, it's been added to the Cooking skill. I like the ice cream we have in game, and am glad we can at least make it ourselves. However, I'm really disappointed that we can't use the FRUITS we GROW for the recipes. A missed opportunity to tie together different game play.

The reason I'd like confectionery skill apart from the cooking skill, is so I can have sims who specialise in something. I like the Bakery skill, cause it allows your sim to specialise in breads, cookies, cakes and pies.

So I'd really like this new skill that uses SUGAR, to make lollies (Aussie here), and chocolates. Not only would I like a new SKILL, I really want the TRAIT and CAREER to go with it. And sculpting with sugar and chocolate too. And I want to be able to use the FRUITS we grow. I really want to tie all aspects of game play together. (A new aspiration would be handy too.)

these are my thoughts on the cupcake factory - yes, I agree, it's too big, and too ugly to put into any normal kitchen. I either end up putting one in the basement, or put them in community lots, and send my sims out to build up their bakery skill.

However, it's the only thing we have in game to make cupcakes, and half the recipes for the bakery skill are needed for it. So I figure, if we have to have it, I'd rather it be even more useful with more options, like being able to make chocolates and lollies/candies.

But! What I'd LOVE even more, is if EA would update the factory, or give us a new one, that we can use in kitchens: 1 tile wide, no more than 3 tiles long ... that way we could put it beside kitchen counters and have it suit our kitchens better.

Anyway, still dreaming about chocolate... :)<3

I love this idea! Hopefully we will get an ep that allows us to have more variety in our shops so that we can own a restaurant, café, kiosk, etc. I would love to sell my candies and cakes in my bakery..

    Thanks!

ooh, I just want to add something else to the idea of SUGAR:

How 'bout a soda maker, so that sims can make sodas to drink. We can have two options:

Natural juice from FRUITS we harvest, eg, if we have cherries, we can make cherry soda - gives a 'natural sweetness of fruit' buff, happy.
Syrups that don't require Fruits (so those who don't like gardening can still use it). This would give a 'sugar rush' buff, VERY playful.

AND, even though Cool Kitchen gave us an ice cream maker, how 'bout a ICED Confection mold our sims could use to make two options, like the above, one with natural fruits, and one with artificial sweeteners. Some with water, some with milk etc.

I also added this idea to the SWEET TOOTH TRAIT:

Sweet Tooth sims could also unlock a new category on the Painting Easel, where they can paint artworks inspired by Chocolate and Candy. We can then sell them in our Chocolate and Candy Shops, are just use them as decorations around our Cafes, Bakeries and at home.

This would be a great idea. It doesn't look too hard (and too expensive) to actually add it into the game, because it could use ingredients and things that are already in the game to make new things. My favourites ideas are the natural juices, the Sweet Tooth trait, and the candies. As a Game Pack, it would work pretty well, with new items, objects, and new clothings based on the theme, or maybe as a feature in some EP.

Thanks @CharlieGoth. I'd be happy to get it any way I can - as long as it's not an add on in a STUFF pack, like ice cream was. I do like the ice cream, but I'm disappointed that you couldn't use fruits we grew in the recipes.

For Chocolate and Candy, I really want some in depth game play with it.

    So .... some more ideas:

If we get a Confectionery Skill in a stand alone GamePack, maybe they could include NEW HARVESTABLE items, like:

Sugar Cane clumps - grow and harvest sugar cane, which could be used in recipes, or eaten just like any regular fruit.
Cocoa Tree - grow, harvest, use in recipes, and if we eat the beans directly from the tree, it could increase energy.

They could give us a new refinery factory that turns Cane into sugar crystals, and beans into cocoa powder, and solid chocolate. That would really be making chocolate from scratch!

How 'bout LOZENGES - they're made with a lot of sugar, and sims could use them to CURE SICKNESS! Hey, if tea and juice can, why not a lollie? A couple of different flavours like honey and lemon, and butterscotch.

    ... also

Jams! - sims could make jams on the stove (or even the grill in a pot) with the fruits in the game. Jam is pretty easy to make, so it should appear in either level 1 or 2 of the confectionery skill. We could make things like Lemon Butter, and Chocolate Spread.
    JWKu21D.png

When we click on the jar, we could have options like: 'Eat from Jar' where the sims could spoon it straight into their mouths, and 'Spread on Bread' where the sims can make a quick sandwich. This should be available to KIDS as well.

Just bringing this thread back, because I really wanted to make jams in the "Eco" stuff pack, but it didn't make it. So, I'm still hoping that this whole thread full of ideas will make it into the game in some pack.

I love this idea! Maybe a game pack? I absolutely love the chocolatier career idea. Rock candies would be cool, and child sims could make them to build creativity(?) or even mental as it is science related. There is a lot of potential for an idea like this.

Thanks @gummybear0724 - yes, I'd love this as a game pack, or even as part of an Expansion Pack. I need more gameplay for my sims, and I love chocolate in real life, so the combo would be perfect. I really want sculpting with chocolate and sugar, as a new hobby a new career to be a Chocolotier and Confectioner, and more things to do with my harvestables.
