This interview is depressing. The interviewer strengthens all her wrong ideas. Open worlds destroy the feeling? Photorealism would be terrible? Obviously he is no simmer.
Agreed. I'll just say that certain parts of this interview made me sick to my stomach.
This forum is not the only place that the sims games are discussed. I have a feeling we are a very small group that comes on here to express an opinion. In the sims 2 and the sims 3 I did not want to play toddlers, the potty training and the teaching to walk was too boring for me. I would cheat my way through them and then they were children. There could be more of us that did that, and that could be why Rachel said what she said about where they get their data. None of us have the figures of how many people actually want toddlers or open world or anything else. We are judging here, which never makes for a good discussion. Now, I will most likely get "slammed" here by some of you, but really, our opinions count, but are we the majority and if some of us want so many different things are we not taking away from the majority who want the same things that we want? Keep saying what you want or need to play the game, but, "slamming" others will not get it for you.
I think like, about all of the people on here have said something about Rachel. I just want to know how old she is.
I think if she were to have received a survey about the Sims, she would be too old to be able to take it. Yet, somehow, her opinions mean more than all the people who actually play the game.
I think its sad that Paradox was able to create a city simulator that you could play offline right from the start. And it took SimCity a year to be able to do that.
Plus Paradox is so much smaller compared to EA/Maxis, yet Skylines still blew SC 2013 out of the water big time.
My point exactly. And it released a PC, Mac and Linux version all at the same time.

Well it's easy to take a look over the fence. The internet is also open for you. Go to other Sims forums and you will find that we are NOT the minority - but nice try to talk us down though. However, you were not successful with this attempt.
You know what I really can't understand? It's the fact that still are people around who even defend this extraordinary dumb business strategy of EA/Maxis.
The worlds are so much smaller than the Sims 2 even, that there really isn't even room for pack growth. I do think the base was poorly planned when it comes to culling and world size and life stages. There isn't much to expand when the limits to those are set so low.

"But I do think it’s important to know, that players play in very different ways. We see all kinds of different play styles and family players are very passionate, so are players that play other ways."
Okay but players that aren't interested in family play would in no way be forced to play with the toddlers if they didn't want to. Instead family players are forced to play without them.
There comes a point when she's gonna have to realize that Sims isn't like other game series. You have to listen to what people want, whether or not is corresponds with "your vision".
I think we all know what the problem is with Sims 4 and it's name is Rachel Franklin.
This just...utterly baffles me. Judging by her general arguments, the franchise would do best if it went back to TS1 standards. Which was fine 15 YEARS AGO.
As a key developer of this game, she is so bizarrely against all the amazing progress (not that these features were perfectly implemented but that's another discussion) that came with TS3.
It's like this,
Interviewer tries desperately not to sound overly negative about things that are so obviously bad by making TS3's take at open world and attempt at more realistic graphics seem like huge problems.
Which makes Rachel go 'OMG you're so right I know we totally saved the future of this franchise by removing these horrible, horrible features!....Nobody likes those anyway! Yes! What else? What else?!?'
I can seriously imagine this interview was only Rachel with a hand puppet.
I clicked awesome but a big lol for that last line

I don't see it...
The worlds are larger than previous Sims games worlds.
But no world can beat Monte Vista however.

he should've just said, "we hate fun stuff. fun is terrible... we don't want that in our sims games... eww. we want more loading screens and less world and less choices. also, we should pay you more for expansions because you're obviously not making enough money."
and rachel would've said, "we're working on that. we're working very, very hard to give the fans less and ignoring them. you really know what simmers want! let's take a selfie and dance!"

Totally. Yet we got told over and over for the first month after release the almost limitless possibilities thanks to that strong foundation...

That interview killed any hope I had left for the Sims 4. Nice to know family play and toddlers won't be done for this iteration finally, that excluding family players was the best decision yet. But yeah I do have to thank EA for that. Thank you for finally answering about toddlers a year later. At least I know now, that my decision not to invest in the Sims 4 further was my best decision yet. At least I have some hope for the Sims 5 at least, but I couldn't care less what happens to the Sims 4 now.
Yeah after this any hope I had is gone who knew that excluding a large portion of players was the greatest thing ever. Clearly that survey they leaked right after Get Together disastrous announcement was nothing but PR @SimGuruRachel has no plans to make Generational play after this interview I can see I was only kidding myself thinking I'd ever see Toddlers and Pre-teens coming in Generations.
Sims 4 went from "You Rule" to "One of the stories we want you to tell"

The same strong foundation that cut the color wheel and open worlds out.

Here let me make it clearer from the neighborhood view:
The limit in amount of Sims allowed is a lot higher in the Sims 2 as well and there wasn't performance issues. Those worlds were built much more stable. There was even room to add your own lots and lot sizes with the real roads in the Sims 2. Plus SimCity allowed you to make your own worlds for the Sims 2.

I don't think Rachel is being dumb or foolish, I just think she's ignorant to the heart and spirit of the Sims games. She's not seeing it, and she's a good person, but she just isn't seeing it.
Rachel is using "economic tools" in a way that she gets short-sighted responses. Paying attention to playstyles through telemetry? That won't tell you what people want; looking at the forums will.
I'm going to tweet Paradox right now. I don't know about you guys but I'm fed up, tired, and disgusted. It's like they think they can get away with anything and everything because they're the only ones producing this type of game. I don't trust them-I never trust greed and lies in the first place. How many lies are you willing to accept before reaching your breaking point? How much money are you willing to give them in hopes of this game turning around? This form of abuse has got to end. You guys pray, hope, dance, whatever for competition to happen, and support Simmythesim on modthesims, please.
Hello everyone! I have moved this thread back to General Discussion. Please remember to keep things civil and do not attack one another or the moderators.

Sorry, but just because we who wants toddlers and family play may be a "minority" doesn't mean we shouldn't get what we want just because the majority decide to skip the toddler stage. If somebody wants something in the game, they should get it. Especially if it's been a staple in the past base game of the series. It's incredibly unfair to take something out just because some people didn't like it. The Sims is about having ultimate unlimited sandbox play. Meaning you do what you want because the game lets you have complete control.
However, we aren't in control of our games anymore and we haven't been for a long time.

I seriously want everyone on these forums to go do all of these things, especially tweet Paradox. I'm tired of EA's greed too. Strength in numbers.
