Is my game patched?

Sorry if this sounds a bit ignorant, but how do I know if my game has been patched? I see many people mentioning patches. I have "automatically keep my games up to date" ticked in Origin. How will I know it has happened?

In origin you can always right click ts4 image and pick; check for updates.

ETA, with that option ticked that you mentioned. it should update when you open origin from scratch.

You can check what version you have installed by reading this file:
C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\GameVersion.txt

My current version is also 1.0.677.20.

I don't think you can launch the game without patching it. I have auto-update off, because I use mods in all my games, and was informed that I wasn't allowed to launch it without patching. It's a horrible thing to have for a moddable game.
