I truly love some well planed empty shops...

the size is even nice to Work with... not to big.....

and the style I like... this old town feel

these would be perfect for my want for a hidden stencil shop.... then it could Work as... well look as 2 difrent shos with difrent type of items....

Wow! Thanks, everyone! The response to the Local Business District has been amazing. If things continue like this, it will soon be my most popular build.

Thanks, yanti, GreenCats, and anettesb. I'm glad you all like the shops. I grew up in a small town that had blocks full of shops that were in buildings from this era, one after the other, and I was trying to capture that feel. I found some photos of that part of town when they were new and tried to come up with something similar. I like working with smaller lots anyway, and having to work within that size restraint really helped capture the look of those old shops.

Thanks, Rose. I'm hoping to grab one last set before I build the casino because it would give me some good casino decor. I'm hoping that the timing will work out for me to snag it when it shows up in the Daily Deal.

Will you be making a Resort lot? Theres a few giant 64x64 lots that would be good for one. MH seems like one of those "must see" places, so I can imagine people visiting often

EDIT: There seems to be a lack of firestations in MH theme too
I don't have Island Paradise, so I can't really do a resort, but a creepy old lodge would be perfect for Midnight Hollow.

I have Ambitions, but I've never really played the Firefighter career. Maybe I should build a fire station and give it a try. I heard that there were some problems with building fire stations from scratch but I don't recall exactly what the problem was. I'll have to go digging in the Ambitions forum and see if I can find the thread with the workaround.

That's so funny you mentioned this. I just bookmarked a thread with links to items with those hidden stencils. It's so frustrating that EA didn't unlock those before releasing the items.

Ah, okay. You seem to have the strongest grasp on what Midnight Hollow builds should be, so I hope a fire station is made in time. Its a rather critical build for my towns that I dont like missing out on. I'm using most of your builds in MH now, most of the empty lots are already taken up already O_o I had to choose between placing "Jack's" near the shopping district near all those homes, or put it by the graveyard's 25x25, which is coincedentally, night next to where my 50x50 Grims Ghastly Manor is. I guess Grim himself parties at Jack's sometimes? Being a Vampire Lounge it kind of fits location wise, right next to two graveyards. I'm not using the Darkest Roast, as I have someone's Avante Garde Gallery remake for the Rebel Hangout, thus leaving the Lonely Literay Cafe as a Java Hut. I love the two consignment stores, they fit together so well next to the toy shop. I have the 20x30 across the road earmarked for a fire station, so few spots left for it to go, and this spot is the last spot in the town section.

Gothic Business District is great! :) It looks great how you have done the 2 shops. Great Gothic and steampunk themes to the shops. The build suits Midnight Hollow world well. It looks great how you have furnished your shell shops build to create these places for sims to sell and buy items. Great shops build! :)

Was this the thread you found the hidden stencils in? I'd hate to use the wrong items if there is more than one set floating about on the Exchange. I haven't played in Hidden Springs, but I think your descriptions gave me a good idea of what you're looking for. I think I might be interested in a couple of those contests. I was just saying that I picked up the Man Cave Compilation recently and I've been thinking about trying a sports bar build.

Thanks so much for you kind words, I'm glad you're enjoying the builds. Thanks also for mentioning the spot you had in mind. I had a look at the lot earlier today and I think I have a good idea of how I want to lay it out to take full advantage of that deep, narrow lot. As I said, I haven't played a firefighter before, so I've started a new game so I can make sure I know what a fire station needs and what works and doesn't work about the default fire station lot. I'm already getting some ideas of things I want to do differently.

I've had Midnight Hollow languishing away in my launcher for months. Finally decided to install it yesterday and used four of your builds. They fit the world perfectly and after using a lighting mod? I'm really enjoying the world.

I can see why people love it so much.

I do think that the Sims in this world (the townies and the role/service ones) are amongst some of the most thought out. I was stunned that none of the spawned Sims are wearing silly outfits. Their hair, skin color, outfits all match the world.

I'm using Jack's (since I'm playing a vampire), Precarious Pub, The Darkest Roast, and Darkstar Comics. You did a great job on these.
I love Midnight Hollow. I would never have taken on a project this big for the other worlds I've played, but I just like the world and the sims that live in it so much that I wanted to play everything there. I'm glad you're enjoying those lots. If you like the Darkest Roast and Darkstar Comics, you may want to keep an eye on this thread. I have one more lot to round out the hangouts for the UL social groups. My remix of the Deserted Gymnasium is almost ready to upload. I've added a basketball court and a basement rec room with lots of co-op activities to help Jocks build relationships while they're working on their athletic skills.

Still havent started on a MH bakery yet, I'll just use one of the default empty stores and give it purpose.

I think a much smaller movie studio would work in MH, it wouldnt need the giant 64x64 lot at all. MH is a place that doesnt really need sets; the world itself is perfect for filming on location

I think I have the Fire Station done. I've created a testing sim for it to actually play a Firefighter in Midnight Hollow, and I've done a test export so that I can revert to this build stage if I need to, and so that I can make sure I know how many good pics I need for the Exchange slideshow.

One of the problems was that the fireman's coats that are hanging on the wall in the default station are actually a trophy that doesn't exist in build/buy mode as far as I can tell. I'll have to see if I can't come up with a workaround. I wonder if I can earn it, place it, and then clone it in build mode.

Now I just need to find some time to test everything in the station. Unfortunately, that will have to wait until after this weekend. I set up the sim, moved him into a house in the testing save, and got the job, but only tested one path I was worried about (It works!).

My to do list currently looks something like this:
    - Grab screen shots for the completed Deserted Gymnasium Remix and post.
    - Play and test the FDMH (Fire Department of Midnight Hollow) build. Better name?
    - Build for anettesb's contest? (sports bar? template shop?)
    - Come up with a bonus upload for hitting 250 recs, preferably before I actually hit 250 recs. (House? Sims? Something else?)
    - Start work on casino and bistro builds.
    - Put together a MH template for new games, gather scattered builds into one place.
    - Complete my (non-MH) Jungle Gym build.
    - Gothic mansion build (after picking up the last few hundred points worth of CYS on Best of 2012).
    - Sig banner for this thread? Where to host?

Perhaps you could download a recoloured version of the firemans coat from the exchange ?
I had a search on the exchange and a link I found was http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=3208799
There would be other recoloured versions too.
Happy simming and enjoy doing the things on your to do list :)

    Deserted Gymnasium Remix (Download)
    screenshot_original.jpg
Part 3 of the Midnight Hollow social group hangouts project is complete! After The Darkest Roast and Darkstar Comics gave hubs for interaction with Rebels and Nerds, the Jocks needed a place of their own, and the Deserted Gymnasium just wasn't cutting it. I've remixed it to give more opportunities for the competition and interaction that Jocks crave.

    screenshot_original.jpg

    screenshot_original.jpg
First up was a basketball court for shooting hoops and showing off your mad dunking skills.

    screenshot_original.jpg
There's also a downstairs rec room where you can compete in a rapid-fire free throw challenge...

    screenshot_original.jpg

    screenshot_original.jpg
...or take to the lanes to show someone who's boss.

    screenshot_original.jpg
You can challenge someone to a round of table tennis or juice pong.

    screenshot_original.jpg

    screenshot_original.jpg
When you're ready to cool down, you can take a break from athletics to play some pool.

The Deserted Gymnasium Remix gives new ways to build your athletics skill, but more importantly, it gives new ways to build your relationships and raise your profile with the Jock social group. By remixing the existing gym, it lets you expand your gameplay options without taking up another lot, and it's CC free.

More photos in the Exchange slideshow.

Deserted Gymnasium remix is a great place to go to for having fun and for building up jock status. It is great that you have added the different forms of games and sports items for sims to play there. Great presentation of the build in pictures and words on the exchange link! The triumphant leap into the air by the sim in the last photo looks great! It is a great build :)

Please do. :) I love Midnight Hollow, and I'm posting them in hopes that other people will find the lots they need to enjoy it as much as I do. Use as many as you like.

Thanks, Anette, I'm so glad you like it. I'm happy with the way that it turned out too. I've never really played sporty sims (my athletic sims tend to be adventurers rather than athletes), but I think I'm going to have a misfit, misunderstood jock in my next generation in Midnight Hollow just so I can spend more time there. :)

It may not look like I've been busy, but I have been busy and I have some fun stuff coming up. My studio has, by my humble standards, been busy and I've hit some milestones that I plan to celebrate with some bonus uploads that I hope you'll enjoy.

To start things off there's a boarding house ready to drop in at 9 Swallow Street; it's a little off the beaten path, but at least the neighbors are quiet. And what would a boarding house be without boarders? If you've been downloading these lots, you're probably in need of some new NPCs, and there will be new NPCs aplenty. They're full of personality and dressed for success no matter what Midnight Hollow throws at them. Both of these updates are done and screencapped, and should be ready for uploading as soon as I get time to update their Exchange slideshows.

The Hidden Path was one of the first builds that I put on the Exchange, but it's still one of my favorites. In honor of it having hit 100 downloads, it's going to receive a bit of a sprucing up, including the full Savvy Seller treatment and a new slideshow.

Don't let the impending celebrations make you think that I've forgotten about the firehouse. It's done, it's tested, and it's ready for screencaps and uploading. I'm just going to play it a bit longer to see if I can't throw in some of the bits that are missing from buydebug. In the meantime, here are a pair of pics to tide you over.

    original.jpg

    original.jpg

What do you think? When the FDMH goes up, should I put up our dashing but camera-shy muttonchopped fireman to go with it?

I unlocked the coat and the fire axe and placed them in the Firehouse, but when I went into edit town, they bounced back into my inventory. Womp womp. So much for that idea. I took some screenshots and did a little cleanup, and I should be ready to upload it soon.
