Not a spider, that said, I have no idea what the heck this thing is. That is where I need your help. I have googled everything I can think of to describe this bug. First time google has completely failed me.
Ok, do any of you know what this is? It is definitely the weirdest bug I have ever seen. That is a quart size jar it's crawling around in. To keep it on topic again, the correct answer (please provide me a link to wiki to confirm) and you will win 250 sp.
Hubs found this one on our porch too...we have mutant bugs living out here!
Comments
It looks like some sort of beetle (yes, that was an obvious comment, I know :P ).
P.S. Or a dung beetle.
LOL, no I photo and release. I like to know what inhabits my yard. I should get some pics of the possum that steals our cats' food.

The first time I saw a possum, I thought it was a huge rat  Raccoons were our demise though. My kitty wasn't able to chase them away, so they kept attacking our garden... and eating tulip roots of all things.
That is what dad thought it was before he saw it live (that or a jar fly-whatever that is), they used to catch June beetles and tie strings around their legs to fly them around when he was a little boy. When he saw this thing, he didn't think it was a June beetle anymore. Hehe, he wouldnt even touch the jar.
Ewww, big bug!
They do look like rats! Imagine coming home and seeing those glowing eyes and long rat tail in front of your vehicle...shiver, it's like a Stephen King short story come to life, hehe.
that link dosn't tell me much about what a dung beetle is....
looking at wiki... I was right in 1 thing.... a dung beetle IS a Scarabaeoidea just like the june beetle.... :P
Pictures of my sims will be on my page
Yep, the ones that kids back in the 50s flew around on strings were the green ones on the link you sent. I found that other pic, to confirm it was a dung beetle. Ewww, it primarily eats dung (gag). Makes sense, because our neighbor has cattle in a field behind our property. I didn't know dung beetles lived in VA, but a google search confirmed we do. http://www.loudounwildlife.org/HHDung_Beetle.htm
Never thought I would see one in real life. I have seen them rolling balls on nature shows before, but never really paid attention to their look.
It had what looked like feelers coming off the side of it's face. Also, the legs did all sorts of weird movements. Ugh. Wait until I tell him what it was!!! LOL
What would you like from your wl?
STRANGEST MOMENT EVER!

Spiders I can deal with, but nothing on earth would make me pick that up! I'm so pleased I live in England, we don't have monster bugs!
