$ Lost Wages $ Update 4/21/2024 - Third Beta is Here! Download it and the new saved game file now!

$ Lost Wages $ is a beautiful city in the middle of the desert where sims can gamble away their life savings! Here are some early screenshots. I really hope you guys enjoy this. Its been a long time since I made a desert themed world, and If I was going to build a Sims 3 world around gambling, of course it was going to have to be inspired by Las Vegas. Here are some early screenshots. Keep in mind this is still a work in progress. The link to the first Beta is located in the first reply below. The final version will also include a saved game file and some additional lots by CJplays.

You can download it here. The map and the official saved game file are included in the same zip folder. You will be able to download them separately when the final version is released, but for now you have to download them together because I want you to be able to play with saved game file while you play test it.

Here's a link to my Tumblr since I just learned that EA is planning to take down the Sims Forums soon. You can follow me there for all future news regarding my Sims 3 worlds, including $ Lost Wages $. You should be able to get the download links for it or any of my future worlds there when they are finished. I don't know what I should do with my old worlds that I couldn't get on the exchange.

Hi @Damienf519 , congratulations on the mention in the Friday Highlights this week! EA_Cath gave your $Lost Wages$ world a lovely and well deserved write-up 🌟

Your new world looks definitely like an awesome town full of fun activities ... keeping fingers crossed though that our sims will not gamble all their simoleons away ... unless someone would like to play the Rags to Riches challenge in reverse ;)

Thanks @Hidehi. I didn't realize that because I've never actually read the highlights before, so I didn't even bother checking them out, so I was completely unaware

    Update 3/17/2024

The next version of $ Lost Wages $ should be coming some time after the 25th but before the 31st. In the meantime I have been play testing the map and here are some new screenshots of some of the sims that will be included in the saved game file. Keep in mind that this still doesn't necessarily one hundred percent represent what the world will look like in Beta B.

    Update 3/30/2024

The next version of $ Lost Wages $ is here. It has the exact same requirements as before. Scroll up if you do not remember them.

This one includes the first five builds by CJ plays ( his houses ), a new house by me, some improvements and fixes and most importantly the first version of the official saved game file. I insist that you play with the saved game file now, if you want to help me play test the new version of the map ( $ Lost Wages $ Beta B ). The saved game file is called $ Lost Wages $ Story B. Make sure you move it to your "Saves" folder and that you have the new version of the map installed, otherwise it will not work. The saved game file is included in the link down below, along with the new version of the map. It includes a total of thirty two households. No NPC graveyard ghosts yet. Those will be included in the official saved game file for the final version of the map

    https://www.mediafire.com/file/6hy0eew60acs1k7/%24_Lost_Wages_%24_Beta_B.zip/file

Now here are a few new screenshots.

This is your first look at CjPlays neighborhood now that all of the houses are complete
    screenshot_original.jpg

This is the new house that I created and added to the map. If you look carefully enough, you should be able to see the sims that live there if you have my official saved game file installed
    screenshot_original.jpg

There was an issue with the ceiling on King Arthur's Court that, luckily I was able to fix at the last moment before I uploaded this new version of the map. Its no longer there, but you should be able to see what it was before it was fixed by looking at this screenshot. I hate that floating / missing ceiling bug
    screenshot_original.jpg

Well that is it for now. Hope you enjoy this new version of the map and please let me know what you think of my sims. I might come back here later and post some more screenshots of some of them

    Update 4/18/2024

Here are some of the sims you should come across if you're playing with my official saved game file installed. I hope you like the Sims I created for $ Lost Wages $. I may show off more of them if you would like

This is the Dubois household. They are one of the few households with pets that I created for the world. Martin Dubois, ( the father ), seems to really be into gambling at the slot machines in my playtest for some reason, so much so he developed the gambling skill. I saw him at the Pyramid when I first switched over to their family
    screenshot_original.jpg

James Brice Cooney and Mortimor C Brian have the goal of creating a book called "Strange Lost Wages." Their storyline was inspired by the real life "Strange USA" series of books about weird stuff involving different parts of the USA.
    screenshot_original.jpg

Finally we have the Pennyless Siblings and their formally homeless friend Elbert Clark. They are actually the last household I created for the world so far. They exist because I wanted at least one household with a storyline involving losing money because of gambling, you know because the world is called, "Lost Wages?"
    screenshot_original.jpg

There are many other sims I created for this world. These are only a few of the households I made.

I would also like to note that I have come across an issue with the Natural Lofts, an uninhabited apartment on the south west side of the map. It makes the apartment unplayable because sims cannot enter it and it won't let you place objects in certain parts of the apartment because it thinks that the ceiling is too low. I haven't been able to fix it so far, but I was able to find a work around that involved redesigning the hallway leading up to the one bedroom apartment, so it should at least be playable in the next version of the map

    Update 4/21/2024

The Third version of this map is now scheduled to be released on March 28th. I made a few aesthetic improvements as well. I also have some really good news. I appear to have completely fixed the issue with the "Natural Lofts." So it can go back to its original design. I am not one hundred percent sure. I will have to do some play testing but it appears to be fixed, with no need for my work around now. I'm so happy it appears to be solved. Keep your fingers crossed! :)

In the meantime, please let me know if you find anything else wrong with the world, or you think could use some improvement before then, so hopefully I can include it in the next version

As of the time of me writing this, CJ, still has not completed the Casino hotel he was planning on creating for the world, so it may or may not be included in the next version

    Update 4/28/2024

The third beta is here. Same requirements as before. The new download link, like the previous one, also includes an official saved game file. Remember that the saved game file included with the last one will not work with this version

    Lost Wages Beta C
    https://www.mediafire.com/file/wynk3ixudrpfljq/$+Lost+Wages+$+Beta+C.zip/file

Now here are some updated screenshots for the world

Here's the inside of that apartment that I finally got to work
    screenshot_original.jpg

One of my families at the casino with their daughter. Bet she wishes she was old enough to gamble her life savings away. Someday honey,
    some day.
    screenshot_original.jpg

This is that same lot outside at night now that it has increased lighting
    screenshot_original.jpg

I also added more lights to the downtown area to make it brighter in general
    screenshot_original.jpg

Off course you can't really tell during the day, but it is noticeable once the sun has gone down
    screenshot_original.jpg

This is another lot I improved and added some more lights to
    screenshot_original.jpg

I also made some improvements to the land surrounding the outlet mall. Those purple flowers are actually in city planter boxes, but the planter boxes are hidden below the soil so you can't see them and it looks like they're just growing out of the ground, neat trick, huh?
    screenshot_original.jpg

Here are a couple of my sims near one of the lakes. Of course, & Lost Wages $ doesn't technically an ocean near it, so this is the closest thing they have to beach
    screenshot_original.jpg

I was hoping that I would be able to show off CJ's casino resort, unfortunately he wasn't able to finish it in time for this update.

    Hey, Damien,

Even though I don't have all the packs on my main computer, I decided to take the plunge and test anyway. So far, Lost Wage$ looks fantastic and plays great. I am on Day One, so I'll have to play more to see if there are any routing or other issues but I haven't seen any so far.

So far, my favorite lot is The Royal Court, and I love the strip mall! Not everything is loading (because of me missing items) but the world is richly detailed enough where I can see myself playing without those items). I'll come back when I've tested LW$ more.

Thanks @ts1depot! Glad you're enjoying it. Please let me know if you come across anything that you think needs fixing or could be improved. I hope you at least have Lucky Palms and the slot machines and roulette and craps tables installed

@Damienf519 Hi, I'm back. I am on Day Two of Lost Wage$, and here are some things I noticed so far.

The house that's "far away" has trees bleeding into the interiors.

    EHscjCd.jpg

I clicked on these elevators but was confused as to why they didn't work, but then realized they were dummy elevators (decorative, I think?). To avoid confusing players, you could just make a basement and place your bathrooms down there. The basement can have a small footprint, just enough for the stalls. You can still keep the ones outdoors in case the elevators get hogged.

    h0rPKZy.jpg

Below, I don't know if it's just a question of textures not loading for me, but the white counters don't seem to match the interiors of this room at this lounge. If it's just a textures issue, no worries but if otherwise, I would use the color picker tool to drag textures from the walls onto the counters, or add the green and white wallpaper from the lobby to this room instead.

Also, and this is a preferential thing, I feel like this interior may have too many chandeliers and needs ambient lighting. Remember that you can change the color of lights to green, red, pink, cyan, etc., as well as dim the settings to create a mood. Ambient lighting is important, because it keeps the interiors from looking too same-y.

    lAeDY3o.jpg

Another thing I think needs working on is the terrain sculpting. At the beach, the water line would look better if it was sloped gradually. The landscape itself needs to be more sculpted to look like sand dunes or rocky cliffs.

Lastly, I don't know if it's just me missing items, but I would have brambles and random clusters of palm trees in the background. Las Vegas, which you say Lost Wage$ is based on, has date palms and the game has them.

@ts1depot i will double check that house. I don’t remember the trees bleeding through the walls like that and it’s a major pet peeve of mine. The water levels were originally higher, but I had to lower them so the bottom floor of the pyramid wouldn’t be partially be submerged. I will see if I can make the edges of the lakes less extreme

It must just be because you don't have everything you need installed like I suspected. I didn't place a tree like that, anywhere near that house. It must have just replaced the nearby Joshua Tree with something from the base game. As you can see, by these two screenshots I just took, its not an issue for me at all. It should only be a problem for someone who doesn't have Lucky Palms installed

@Damienf519 Oh, that's really weird. You'd think that if a player were missing content for a palm tree, it would substitute other palm trees. Instead, the game substituted oak trees. :p

ETA: I'm going to float a suggestion here, in terms of this particular issue. I think that there should be two versions of Lost Wage$, one that uses assets from Lucky Palms and one that has substitutes. For example, in the non-Lucky Palms version of Lost Wage$, you could have the palms from WA/IP/Showtime) in place of the Joshua Tree and other palms from those packs.

The reason is that Lucky Palms is an expensive world, and because of this, far more players are likely to have, say, World Adventures, Starlight Shores and Island Paradise (which have similar palm trees and items) than LP. AT 24 bucks, players are not going to buy that world just to play this or any other custom world, so why not have a version for them as well?

@ts1depot Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not uploading a second version that doesn't use Lucky Palms. Its too much work, just for people who don't have a single store item. I am not going to go back and edit the map and most of the lots for that, nor do I want to ask CJ to create a second Lucky Palms free version of his builds. Plus I will have to kill all of the sims that I create for the cemetery ghosts a second time and that's tedious and time consuming. The world also would not look right without the Lucky Palms assets to me, which is why I used Lucky Palms. While it would be nice to have more people download the world, it just is not worth it to me.

Also Joshua trees are not palm trees, which might explain why that happened. It makes sense for it to replace it with something other than a palm tree

@Damienf519 I wasn't talking about doing over the lots or households, just the trees. The lots load up fine for me. Yes, there are some missing items, but nothing too serious where it's unplayable or unattractive.

The reason why I suggested having a vanilla version of Lost Wage$ is that the world is nice and filled out enough as it is without Lucky Palm items, so it would be a shame if people who don't have that world missed out, but I understand where you're coming from.

@ts1depot Sorry, but no. I understand where you're coming from as well, but I feel like I kind of have to use Lucky Palms with this one.
