My sims run everywhere

First there was one sim who would run everywhere instead of walk, then two and now three. I tried moving everybody out and back in (somehow managed to do that), money cheated my money back because for some reason they lost some and within 20, 30 minutes the glitch was back with one sim. I've already tried doing reset sim and that didn't work. I split the save when I moved them out and back in so now there are two saves with this problem. How do I fix it? I hear there's a mod that will fix it, but can I fix it without it?

The whole household can be evicted together from within Edit Town; and then directly placed back from the clip board before going back to live mode. I am not sure what is meant by splitting a save and have not had the problem in my game. I'd like some of that coffee please.
I mean I used save as to create a new save rather than overwrite the one where the bug started, but it just affects them both now
It seems to be a very commonly experienced problem, and throughout all the game's history. There is an explanation to why it happens, in this old comment by the mod developer for a fixing mod:

So a guess for a vanilla fix is to not let sims do the actions that will make them move in a particular way (tag/catch/jog/run/sneak); and if they do, make sure to make them 'snap out of it' by manually choosing a walking style for them afterwards; like crinrict said.
Other suggestions of resetting fixes I found was sending the sims traveling (WA); and teens to bording school (and then back). Teens who sneak can be 'forgiven', to stop the 'grounding' process. To give sims orders to interact with objects (Paint, choosing the map tag for a venue etc) might be better than clicking on the ground choosing the action Go Here.
