The Sims 3 Complete Collection Challenge

ZerbuZerbu Posts: 3,457 Member
This challenge is designed to make use of every feature in the entire game, so you can get the full experience of The Sims 3 before The Sims 4 comes out next year.

There is some base game content mixed in with all the expansion pack generations.

Rules that effect the whole challenge

You can start the challenge with either a single Sim or a couple, but any Sims younger than Young Adult must be born in game.

You are free to create custom Sims to join your household (either through marriage or the move in interaction) and they count towards the challenge like any other Sim. They must be moved in from the game, merging is not allowed.

Unless stated otherwise, all goals are shared between the household. So you can have one Sim complete one goal, and another Sim complete another goal.

Also, unless stated otherwise, Sims can work together on goals, so for example, if the goal was "make 30 friends" and you had three Sims, you could have them each make ten friends (or one make ten, one make nine and one make eleven). This obviously doesn't apply to lifetime wishes or skill challenges :P

You may complete any lifetime wish or skill challenge even when it's not part of the goals for the current generation, but when the goal does come up, any time you've completed it previously won't count and you'll have to do it again.

You may travel to any location even when it's not part of the goals for the current generation, but when the goal does come up, it won't count and you'll have to do it again. I don't recommend traveling to the future as it could ruin the story immersion when the Into The Future segment comes up.

You can attend university during any generation, but remember, university goals don't count until the university generations come up.

You may move worlds any time you want using the "Move To A Next Town" feature.

Remember - the point is that you enjoy the challenge. If you think one of the rules or goals is negatively effecting your enjoyment, you can ignore it or tweak it to your liking. If you don't like the order the generations are in and think they'll negatively effect your enjoyment of the challenge, you can switch them around. (However, Into the Future contains all the "final" goals so it wouldn't work well swapped)

Have a Sim complete every collection in the entire game.
Own a house worth 1,000,000 simoleons.
Have 99,999,999 simoleons.

Optional Rules
Technological Development:
At the start of the challenge, all future tech objects (objects from Into The Future as well as objects from other expansion packs that use technology that hasn't been invented yet). For each generation, when the first-born Sim ages up to the Child stage, you may choose one piece of future technology to unlock. Once you get to the Into The Future generation, all future tech objects will be available (assuming they haven't already been unlocked - I haven't counted the exact number of future tech objects in the game).

The future tech objects available via lifetime wishes don't count to this rule (unless you want them to).

The clothes pedestal doesn't count, unless you want it to.

Increasing Difficulty
Using NRaas StoryProgression, increment the value of "Money: Property Tax Rate" by 2 for each generation. You may choose whether or not to do this for the first generation.

I like the sound of this, but I have a note regarding the friendships-rule for the WA-worlds. They'll be unattainable for Nraas-SP users, purely because Nraas-Sp pumps the worlds to Sim-limit. ^^
Other than that, due to the way how Sims drop their tasks as you shift focus to another sim...
You'll just run out of time in a vacation to make it work and get it done, especially since that task falls to the third generation, which also makes other tasks related to WA a bit hard to attain.
Everything else I've read sofar is perfectly doable. I'm interested to see the rest of the challenge.

Now that I think of it, Story Progression would cause problems due to the fact that it can change the number of Sims in the world, so I've changed it to making 30 friends.

As far as I know, the fact that it takes until the third generation shouldn't make a difference unless you already visit the WA worlds before it.

For the things that the challenge expects players to do, generation three for it is too early in the legacy. Apart from the 30 friends in each world, which still adds up to 90 (Ninety!) people a player has to befriend, there's also the buying of vacation-homes, plus the WA LTWS.

But, it's your challenge and you must conduct it how you see fit. I'm merely seeing a bottleneck. ^^

It is a bit difficult, but my personal preference is for difficult challenges. But like with basically all challenges, the rules are just suggested guidelines so you could always change them and do the Ambitions part first if you prefer.

And it's okay, you're just trying to help. ;)

By the way, just so you know, the befriending goals count the combined amount of friends of all Sims, so for example if you had three Sims, you could have each of them make 10 friends.

I'd mention that shuffling the generations is allowed.

And I think the holiday homes would be best split into the three separate ones. Own a home in Egypt for the Egypt generation. Home in France for the France generation. Home in China for the China generation. Unless you allow for people to buy blank lots, it will be too hard for a majority of players especially given the 2nd generation LTW of surrounded by family. And the challenge should be balanced for the order suggested.

Me, I'd have to move the generations that push for getting rich until much later, most likely towards the end of the challenge. For me, the challenge is having limited funds. Your challenge pushes get rich quick! And that ruins the challenge for me. Once you have the funds to build a great house, you no longer have to worry about mood as much.

Thanks for the advice. The problem with the first suggestion is that you need to have a max visa level to buy a holiday/vacation home, and one of the lifetime wishes in the third generation is to max out the visa level in all three destinations, so that's when you'll be given the opportunity. Since the other generations don't have visa points, one of the Sims will have to earn them again. However, I've moved the goal to the long-term goals so that people can do that if they want, or delay it until after the fourth generation is born.

The reason I put those goals at the start is because most players would have completed them anyway if I had put them any further. Once the lifetime wishes are completed, you can do whatever you want with the money, so perhaps you could move a household member you don't need anymore into an expensive house then you'd be back to limited funds.

I'm working on writing the rules that effect the whole challenge right now.

But generation 1 to me ruins the challenge. How many players of the legacy go: oh the time when they had all the money in the world was the fun part? How many go: the part where they were struggling to make ends meet and had to live on the lawn was the fun part?

At least switch it with the 2nd generation's goals, if you're wanting to leave it with having some challenge. Between Jack of All trades and Surrounded by Family, they shouldn't be rich enough to take the bite out of that challenge. And the money values they need will raise if they do get rich enough. At least to some degree in the games I've seen with that LTW.

And true with the Visa levels needed for the housing, but it's not that hard to get max Visa in one location. Not to mention, unless you want to drag mom and dad to the places again, it would be worth while to max Visa to give the most time to earn friends. And that only helps with Egypt. Gen 2 will likely be dead by the time Gen 4 is old enough, and definitely by the time Gen 5 is, unless you go for a long lived occult and not everyone wants to play with occults.

Just an interesting tidbit, short of the friends requirement, I've done gen 3 before on accident. Heir had Seasoned Traveler. Spouse came in with Great Explorer.

After playing the challenge myself, I realized that you're right, the first generation does make the game boring, so I've replaced it with a new one altogether.

As for the visa levels, now that the goals are in the long-term goals section, the player can do it any way they want (whether it involves maxing out visa levels a second time or not).

Sorry for not updating the challenge for a while, I've been busy working on the revamped Sunset Valley world.

I've added the optional technological development rule, and removed the first generation university restriction.

I was playing a town legacy challenge with some of the rules being similar to the rules in this challenge like not taking advantage of all EP's right away and my Sims started out homeless on the largest lot size to stop them from having to move before starting their family.I also have to use a tainload of NRaas Mods according to the new rules of that challenge when I get my Sims 3 computer back from the repair shop.
