It's August 1st, and I finally caught the Walker Cicada. My bug collection is complete! Looking forward to getting the golden net, but what will I use it for?
A bit of an old thread, but does anyone have any design tips for islands?
While I have a five star island, I prefer functionality over decor. I want to be able to easily walk around my island, including my beaches. I try to have some areas that stay the same year round, but others that I can change seasonally.
For instance, on the beach I have an area dedicated to crabbing with a signs, buckets, shovels, and a display of some crab-like sea creatures. Another area is dedicated to diving with diving gear, changing rooms, campfire, coffee maker, etc. Those are there all the time, but in winter I change my sign to a polar plunge one.
For seasonal changes I have an area that has sea turtles in warm weather and penguins in cold.
Keep in mind areas you might need. For cooking you'll probably want a garden area. Maybe one for growing flower hybrids too! Consider your job or calling in life. Maybe an artist would have an area to paint, a musician might want a busking area, a teacher might have to have a classroom. Just make it reflect you.
There are many ideas online. You can Google to find ideas to decorate outside your museum, Nook's Cranny, or Abel Sister's. The main thing is to have fun!

I had to open my island its been so long since I've played idk anything about it anymore lol.
But let's see... making things not necessarily symmetrical or even. Give your island some depth and dimension. One of my favourite tricks to use is staggering tree growth. If you plant a fruit tree (just use the fruit not a grown tree) right next to a non-fruit free neither will continue to grow so I love to have clusters of trees stopped in different stages just plant that fruit tree behind the tree you want to stall and its barely noticeable.
Along that line I have crops around my island that are just decoration I dont need to harvest them anymore but I also have a farm to harvest from if I want. So these crops how many veggies will appear when ready to harvest depends on how many days you watered it so I'll water some every day until ready and others once or twice so they don't all have 3 veggies ready to harvest they might have 2 or 1 (I don't really like the 1 but whatever). Then just leave them once fully grown they just stay as they are until harvested.
Custom paths/patterns are one of the best tricks imo if you have nintendo online. Especially versatile ones. Ones that have transparent areas so you can throw them down on their own or over default paths to liven them up or vary them more (like flowers or moss maybe). A variation or two of "the path" which just comprises of different parts of a path that you can combine how you want. It allows you to like twist and customize paths better. Drop some custom leaf patterns around trees, throw some stone slabs under things.
Experiment with things recolor them don't be afraid to use them in different ways than the obvious/intended. The plaza train that looks like a kids ride at the mall get it recoloured black if needed throw it with some mine carts you have a train. Throw a bus stop and a destination sign you have a quiet train station. Recolour the boring wooden decoy duck throw it by some water you have a mallard duck on the riverside. Use jail bars against a narrow section of cliff at the base throw some path down at the top you have a bridge with rails.
Mostly if you have nintendo online visit other islands especially dream islands because it's generally what people want to show off also its peaceful and no other guests will be in the way or crashing the island or anything. See what others are doing and don't be afraid to use it. Art inspires art, see ideas in action it helps a lot. Some people are so brilliant and creative it's amazing.
That was long lol but hopefully it has something useful.
I have just been playing New Horizons and New Leaf recently and thought about asking if anyone is still playing Animal Crossing. I love those games so much!! They are so cute, and New Horizons has such cute and pretty graphics. They will never lose their charm for me.
All my daily trances, and all my nightly dreams, are where thy grey eye glances, and where thy footstep gleams.
I dance to the beat of my own drum, no matter how measured or far away.
I do love a road. You can always be wondering what is at the end of it.
@simgirl1010 Yessss I love the birthday celebration and getting the surprise birthday item!!!! I hadn't played in awhile, a few months maybe several months?, until recently either because I have been so consumed by so many games, but I just got in the mood for it and I'm glad that I did.

Been working on my island, trying to get it to five stars. I now have five Black Roses and reducing the number of flowers from an attempt at flower breeding. Going to replace a Peach Tree I planted and level a cliff. The reason why I'm reducing the amount of flowers is so I can encourage the Black Lily and Black Cosmos to spread and also to work on a park area. I will replace the current path and create a new path leading to the park.
Today is Eloise's birthday. Haven't played in a few months but have to log in today and help her celebrate. She's my absolute favorite AC character. ❤️

The Golden Net has a much wider radius and makes it easier to catch bugs.
Since you've completed the collection you could catch bugs and sell them. If you need money.
Thank you! And I'll definitely need it to catch those wasps!
