Maybe they just didn't have time or budget to go as in-depth as they would have liked with the werewolf designs, at least out of the conception phase. I'm not saying it was right and they did do female weresims dirty, but you have to try and think of it from a dev prospective and what they can and can't do.
time i can get since EA is forcing all their studios to rush stuff but budget?? a multi billion corporation that makes billions of of lootbox infested casinos err games and has the budget to pay their CEO's millions upon millions in bonusses?? yeah good one buddy
Maxis could have worked magic if they weren't under the boots of greedy EA execs and had the time and room to realize their full potential but nope....EA... they have this reputation of worst gaming company ever for years now for a reason.. though Activision Blizzard is heavily competing for that "honor" atm...
I don't think that every expansion pack or a game pack needs to come with a new world, and I don't mind not getting a new world if it means overall better gameplay that is flushed out to its fullest potential.
I also don't think a 10 lot world is small. Copperdale in my eyes is not a small world and it has enough lots on it.
I dislike when creators use Reshade to take pictures of their lots or use photo editing software on their screenshots for showcasing their lots they put up for downloading (obviously this is on sites other than the Gallery).
I get they want to make their lots more visually appealing by setting an atmosphere, but why not also have unedited, vanilla pics so players know exactly what the lot will look like in game?
I like teens the way they are. Although I would like there to be pre-teens.
I like babies the way they are too.
I don't get why everyone seems to want cars for this game. What on earth would we do with them? The way the game has to load every lot and every neighborhood, we can't watch our sims drive them around, so what is the point? Just to watch the sim get in the car in front of their house and watch the car disappear when they're leaving for work?
I loved the whims as they were. Now they're completely replaced by this "wants and fears" abomination. They should at least have given us the option to keep whims if we decide to turn off wants and fears.
At this point, I don't believe it's possible for the sims 4 to surpass the other games in terms of previous features however I find it always really excels at adding completely unique features.
For an example, Eco Lifestyle which is an entirely new concept not only ended up being really good but introduced new mechanics that actually change the whole game. It's one of the few expansions that actually FEEL like they make a difference.
In conclusion, I wish the focus would be on how to make the game more immersive and fun with new ideas, instead of trying to add half baked versions of systems from previous games.
While I appreciate the devs adding new things I really wish they were more feature complete before moving on to the next new idea. Neighborhood Stories is an example of this and honestly seems like it was added for the sake of it, before being totally forgotten. Which is why despite turning it off in settings my sims will still several calls per day from her best friend asking if she should have another baby. To be fair its funny in small doses, but when its all the time it becomes obnoxious.
Eco Lifestyle NAP notifications continually appearing weekly when its entirely switched off in settings (I know the NAP's aren't actually active) or Bess Sterling phoning trying to scam my sim three times a week. I guess my problem is I don't like the way many of the messages feel like spam because there's enough of this in the game already once you have a few expansions. If it wasn't for the build/buy items I'd have already uninstalled EL.
Most of all I really hate how phone focused the game is at times. To me my phone is a tool I use occasionally and nothing more, I guess its an age thing for me. Hopefully the Unlisted Phone Numbers mod gets updated soon.

I don't really get the whole "modders are what make the game fun" thing. Sure modders are great and add a lot of good stuff, but I've never found that mods are game changing enough that they'd make the game fun if I wasn't enjoying it
I think family-life on Sims is boring. At first, I thought it was having more than 1-2 sims. But I like playing quartets of YA roommates. I hate babies, kids and teens. Teens were almost fun to play with when I thought i could make cliques (metal heads, goths, punks, cheerleaders) and have them interact in HSY...but sadly the game would literally rather spawn new teens (after I've deleted every Maxis-created family with a teen) then let my other created teens at the HS. And it's not just family life on Sims 4, it's on all the Sims games.
Dunno if it's unpopular but... I want more special friendship actions. I'm only listing this as "unpopular" because it seems like the game (and a lot of its' audience) mostly pay attention to romance. I kinda find romance overrated and would really like to have some enhanced friendship options instead because currently there's like nothing that makes them special. Best friends? Does that even do anything except offer some text flavor? (I personally installed a mod which unlocks a "loving hug" for best friends to make them at least somewhat distinguishable.)
I really want more intimate interactions between close friends instead of them all being reserved to romantic partners. I mean, friends can basically do nothing else than hug and even then there's no difference between hugging friends and good/best friends. There's also special interactions for romantic partners tied to aspirations, like being able to "share burden" and whatever. From my experience that's what good friends do all the time too. (Me and my friends have had several "ranting sessions" in which we all kinda share what's been bothering us in our personal lives and then support each other.) Yes I know there's something similar tied to Parenthood character traits but in an unmodded game those are not autonomous and they are restricted, e.g. can't have a YA/Adult/Elder with that trait unless you played through required age states.
I dunno, something about how the supposedly close friendships work in this game just seem rather "cold". Every friend is basically the same instead of them sharing any special connection so if your sim was to lose that friendship... you kinda feel nothing at all. Unless you were heavily roleplaying them i.e. making them more meaningful because of your own storytelling. Meanwhile irl I'd be devastated if for some reason I lost my closest friends. They are very important people for me. Sims just seem to miss that comradely that can make good friends so special.

I can answer this at least for me. I personally don't like having to use mods b.c it requires too much maintenance so I played vanilla for a while, but the game always felt lacking.
Nothing I did in the game mattered
Nothing spontaneous ever happens (my sim will never die unless I kill them, nothing bad ever happens)
No matter what trait I gave a sim I would always forget since every sim acted the same
There are no real consequences for simmers making evil sims
There is no incentive to explore the world or leave your house
The whole $900 game relies on my imagination for drama like a doll house does, instead of giving me the proper tools to create it
I didn't want a lot of mods for fear of breaking my game, so I tried to pick just a few core mods to help flush out the games content and add some consequence and meaning to my actions. I choose:
Pregnancy overhaul - The hospital now had a purpose, pregnancies mattered, and adoptions became something I might need to look at
Wonderful Whims - Romance wasn't so scripted anymore, my sims could find a partner and I could choose to assist
SNBank - I now have to care about my income.
Carls overhaul - low income made me care about my $. Traits made different sims behave differently.
Personality Please attached to meaningful stories - helps traits matter when it comes to interactions and how they feel
My game plays like the regular game if EA would have flushed out their base game content, what my sims do and don't do now matter. I can try to help my sim, but there is a chance of failure, there is a bit of risk when trying for a baby and sometimes I have to create a plan B.
That is why mods for me make the game fun (even though I don't like having to use them). They flush out the base game content so that everything isn't just a perfectly scripted world where nothing matters and the sims around you react to nothing you do.

This. Oh, so, so very much this.
I don't have many babies in my game but I absolutely adore the toddler stage.
Werewolf toddlers are sooo adorable with that howl!❤
Please take note of this people. My game is completely ruined since last weeks patch.

Also I honestly wished they introduced teens later, like they did with toddlers because Sims 4 has the best toddlers in my opinion.
