Start-up

Hello. I just purchased The Sims 3 Ambitions and was installing it. It installed with no problems but when I clicked on the icon to start playing the game, I got a error box that said (there was a error at start-up please see log file) I couldn’t find the log file they were referring to. Could you help me with this?
Thanks

Do you have Non EA content installed, this includes the exchange ?
If you have CC installed via frameworks like monkey bars or monkey installer, they need to be removed & the frameworks removed as well. If you use mods they need to be updated to Ambitions versions & installed in the new location.

If you failed to do this before installing Ambitions, your current save may be corrupt now.

    Delete the cache files.
    Found in: Documents/Electronic Arts/ Sims 3 folder
    CASPartCache.package
    CompositorCache.package
    ScriptCache.package
    SimCompositorCache.package

As well as the Content ONLY from the DCBack up folder.

If you have not done the above do that all now. Then pull your saved games to the desktop & see if a new game can be started.

Thanks for your reply. I don't have any non-EA content installed except the Sims 3 game. I have downloaded a few items from the EA exchange? That would be about it. I cleared the cache anyway and I'm going to try and re-install the game. Do you know where this log file using is?

Thanks Big Guy.. really useful info. I did a check and it said my comp exceeds what I need to play sims 3. I been playing it for years and have never had errors on installing expansion packs. How would I find out what caused this error? I tried to re-install and got the same error,

Hi.. I thought the download manager came with the game? How do I get it? On the EA website? I now get the same error trying to play the sims 3 game. Installing my new expansion pack changed or did something :(

    Hi,

For your specific issue you can check out the following threads for a possible solution:

    And:

If you have installed the Create-a-World tool, it is advised that you uninstall that as another troubleshooting step.

As for your other question, the latest version of EADM can always be downloaded from the following locations:

    North America
    http://na.akamai.cdn.ea.com/eamaster/u/f/eaonline/eadm/eadm-installer.exe

    Outside North America
    http://ams.akamai.cdn.ea.com/eamaster/u/f/eaonline/eadm/eadm-installer.exe

Also take note of the following:
    From SimGuruBrent:

Adobe Air is now used as a component of EA Download Manager in order for it to function properly. It is highly recommended to install it when installing/upgrading EA Download Manager.

I didn't have internet on my PC when I had the problem... Look at your game version on the bottom of your download manager does it say 0.000 or something like that? I didnt have to download it again I just did a search on my computer and when I found the download manager I just opened it and the Launcher prompted me that there was another an updated version on my computer and asked if I wanted to install it, I clicked yes and it worked fine
