Bowling Bug

When my sims go to the bowling lanes to play a game, they may bowl once or twice, but then they just stop and start talking to people, anybody have the solution for this?

Nope. Bowling is just one giant bug for me. I don’t even bother with it anymore because I know the chances of completing a game are slim and none.

I’m not sure any one aspect of it is working properly.

It's too buggy to use. The only way I've ever managed to successfully finish a game is by having the alley on the home lot. In that case, it was my Loner couple so it was just the two of them and they were able to bowl and finish a game in a normal amount of time when it was on their home lot and nobody to interrupt them. It's awful because I really thought bowling alleys would be fun to add to my towns. Instead, they are unusuable.

I don't remember the last time bowling worked in my game, if it ever really did. Maybe when it first came out.

I actually just tried to send my Sims bowling the other day and it was such a failure. It was a group of three who had just shown up at the place and got straight to playing. Only one of them took a single turn before one of the others just up and left. Then the same one who had already gone had it queued to go again for some reason, but just stood there frozen, and eventually the remaining member went upstairs to sit at the bar and chat with other Sims. 🙄

My Sims stop bowling because every random townie that enters the lot heads straight to them to chat. This automatically makes my Sims pause bowling while they wait for the townie or townies to slowly get to them to chat. Sometimes the townie changes their mind and which then leave my Sim standing doing nothing and often cancels bowling activity.

I recently started using the Less Intrusive Conversations mod by Turbodriver at Mod The Sims to reduce this. So far, I like this mod. It's made a noticeable difference when my Sim is involved in a conversation with another Sim or a group of Sims that they know. It also seems to work with single Sims doing something at an Art Center or Museum where I've had them paint without being interrupted. I'll have to try it with bowling.

I'm pretty sure it worked for me the last time I tried. I always select the shortest set of frames and usually have two sims bowl against each other. I'll pay attention if it works next time.

I don't mind Sims starting conversations with my Sims but not at the expense of them dropping everything they are doing. I feel this also when my Sims are in a club gathering and when they are eating (especially from the food stalls). Not to such extremes as with bowling though. Fortunatly, working on homework and working/playing/chatting on the computer seem to be immune to this. So far anyway. The conversation happens but my Sims don't drop everything, stand up and stare into the air until the chatter finally decides to arrive :rage:

Sounds like typical Sims 4 multitasking shenanigans to me

I actually meant to test this before but I forgot. I'm using Zero's mod which is similar to Turbo's mod to stop NPCs interrupting conversations, but I think Turbo's is a bit more involved. Anyway, I meant to try bowling again after installing this mod but it slipped my mind.

Well, I just tried it now. No NPCs bothered my 2 sims but they did keep sitting down to talk every so often and it still took a while to complete. But they did actually finish the game. So yes, I'd recommend Turbo or Zero's mod if you want to bowl without NPCs interrupting with their idle chat. I don't know if this will ever get fixed, but at least there's a mod to make it possible to bowl in public again.

Edit: I tested it again after, including an invited friend. NPCs can still interrupt the invited sim, so it's still unplayable if you're bowling with somebody who is not part of your active household.

They’re such chatty patties. I think they only bowl about two frames.

I think it used to be where nobody talked at all during a game, which made it very boring. I didn't like it either, it seemed silly for a group or a family to go bowling together and not utter a word between each other. So I think they uh "fixed" it some time ago and now it's even worse because everybody and their mother comes to talk to you and then it bugs out and won't complete. I kind of wish they'd "fix" it to where nobody talked to each other again, haha.

I regret getting my hand on the pack on sale... How many people go bowling on their own irl. I rather they go back to sims not chatting than the situation right now. I was forced to turn off autonomy while bowling with the sims in my household. And for npc there's no hope. It's such a waste of money.

I just got this pack during a sale. I got it for the bowling. I don't care much for the CAS or build/buy. I got it for the bowling, but Sims won't bowl. I sent a group of 3 (all from my active household) to bowl in a bowling alley on a Generic lot. No one else showed up. The first Sim bowled and then started chatting while the 2nd Sim had their turn, then they all just stood there chatting instead of bowling. They all had bowl in their action que, but whenever I cancelled the chat they just stood there then started up the chat again. Then one might finally have their turn and then they stand there chatting again. It's really annoying, I got this pack so I could have my Sims go bowling, but all they do instead is stand there chatting. I had not come across this thread or anyone saying that Sims chat instead of bowling before I got the pack. If I had I would not have got it.

@Sallycutecat just pointing out that this thread was necroed by the person before you, then a fair amount of time between them and you, so it may get locked later

i think the biggest deal for you is the fact you used a generic lot instead of a bar. bar venues make the best bowling alleys from what i've seen. and generic lots are specifically designed so that nobody but the currently played household and anyone they invite along will show up on them. hence the no one else being there

i just went to check things in my game and bowling seems fine:

my sim brought agnes crumplebottom along to bowl with her and both did just fine, though it did take a bit of time for either one to bowl their second round because were talking. both did eventually stop chatting and go bowl, though. after that one bout of chatting the rest of the set went on without a hitch, nobody wanted to come talk to them, they didn't want to talk to anyone else until the game was over

the sims in black bowling shirts are a club that focuses on bowling and they did all bowl... mostly fine...each one took up a whole lane on their own, though, for some reason. but once they finished their set, other teams used the other lanes properly

the sims in yellow shirts aren't a club, just a bunch randomly put together by the game to bowl together. funny enough, they're all vampires. it was after midnight in my game when i loaded it up to test, though, so i guess makes sense they'd want to do something entertaining

I haven't tested it, but perhaps turning full autonomy off may do the trick?

My Sim has a bowling alley in his house, and I have a great time playing with it.

If they are actually dropping the bowling task to talk, I don't have any suggestions.

If they are trying to multitask bowling and talking but get stuck talking for ages, I find micromanaging and cancelling the conversations as soon as they start is the only way to finish the bowling set before someone has bladder failure or passes out or something like that.

I tried to use the bowling alley as a way for my Teens to have some fun over the summer, but when I had the group of eight go, they wouldn't form teams and so the only one who threw a ball down the alley, twice, was my Teen Star. I have since given up.

It's a great way to meet new sims and socialise which is what I use it for. To be honest I like the chaos bowling, dining out and trying to throw a wedding brings :D

I love making bowling a family activity. I once had a large family with two sons and two daughters, so they would split into two teams: Dad and the sons and Mom and the daughters. The winner of each went on to face each other for bragging rights. I'll also occasionally have my Sim couples go out for a fun date night bowling. It's a great activity, but I do wish it was tweaked a bit.

Bowling is definitely harder to pull off with NPCs. Honestly, it's so frustrating that I only ever bowl if I'm controlling the entire group. The Sims want to socialize during the game, and it makes sense, but they just can't multitask at all. I only ever do the 3 frame games because I feel like the 5 and 10 frames last way too long in game.
