It was a nice little surprise to see my story featured today, I decided to put a thread up so
those interested in reading more can.

In the dark Part one
WARNING: images put into spoiler because its a car accident scene
and some may not like graphic. Click at discretion, there is blood.
"Brian, you really shouldn't let Jonathan sit in the front, and with
no seatbelt!" Carey lectured her husband."He'll be fine, Carey, give
the kid a break!" Brian shouted back, trying to keep his eyes on the road.
"I don't want to hear an complaints when your son goes through a windshield."

Brian rolled his eyes and turned the radio to his favorite station." "Dad, look
at what I can do with my trucks!" Jonathan shouted, smashing them together."Daddy,
look!" He said again waving the toys in his dad's face."Jonathan quit it! I can't
see." "Just one quick look dad?!" "Fine...that's nice, Jonathan..." "Brian! Look
out Carey said." A deer stood blocking the road, Brian swerved to miss the deer,
losing control of their pickup.
The truck went airborne, flipping over 3 times and finally landing upside down
in a tree.The passengers were ejected from their car, fighting for life Brian
slipped in and out of conciousness.Jonathan was killed on impact, and Carey
was barely alive.The victims laid there waiting for help.
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
Brian was lucky to be alive, the doctors told him.He lost his sight
in the accident, but was alive...
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave

And it won't leave me alone
"I'd rather it had been me then my family!"
He thought, feeling guilty for Carey and Jonathan's death, after all if he
had listened to his wife, they would still be there.A small service was held
in the cemetary for Jonathan and Carey
These wounds won't seem to heal, this pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
Brian lingered for a while after the services ended.He said his final
goodbyes and called for a cab to come pick him up..The journey home was
fille with "what ifs?" and "why?"
You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now, I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me

It was a difficult time trying to take care of basic needs.Brian adopted
a service dog named Susie Q, but he still had issues with house chores.
"Come Susie, lets take a walk to the park"
"I hear music." Brian said, trying to find where the sound was coming
from."Come Susie, head toward the music."
Ariel: I read a note my grandma wrote, back in 1923.Grampa kept it
in his coat and he read it once to me.He said girl, you might not understand,
but a long long time ago...grandma's daddy didn't like me none, but I loved your
grandma so.
Ariel: We had a crazy plan to meet and run away together, get married
in the first town we came to, and live forever..But nailed to the tree where
we were suppose to meet, I found this letter and this is what it said.
Ariel: If you get there before I do, don't wait up for me.I'll meet you
when my chores are through, don't know how long I'll be, but I'm not gonna let
you down, darling wait and see and between now and then...till I see you again, I'll be
loving you, love me.
Ariel I read these words just hours before my grandma passed away.In the
doorway of a church, where me and grandpa stopped to pray.You know I never
seen him cry in all my 20 years, but as he said these words to her, his eyes filled up
with tears
Ariel: If you get there before I do, don't give up on me.I'll meet you
when my chores are through, I don't know how long I'll be, but I'm not
gonna let you down, darling wait and see, and between now and then till
I see you again, I'll be loving you...love me....Between now and then, till I see
you again, love me.
Ariel quickly turned to find Brian and Susie listening intently to her
song."I didn't see you there, I'm so embarrased!" Her face turned beat
read, she didn't like to sing for an audience. "Don't be, your song was beautiful."
Brian tried to reassure her.
Ariel relaxed a bit; "Thank you....I wrote it for my grandma, she died
a few years ago from a stroke...It devasted my grandpa." Memories
of Carey and Johnathan rushed back to Brian, he felt his pain coming back.
"I understand, I just lost my son and wife in a car accident."
"I'm so sorry." Ariel exclaimed."I hope things are getting better for you."
"It was a few months ago, but I'm coping..I'm lucky to be alive, I suppose.I'm
Brian by the way." He extended his hand, waiting for a hand shake."I'm Ariel."
She met his hand shake. "Are you studying music?" Brian asked."If not, you should.
You have talent."
"Actually, I want to go to school to be a paramedic, I love helping people."
"We need more paramedics with compassion, they saved my life...Why haven't
you?" Brian stopped talking, feeling like he was prying a little bit."Its alright, I don't
mind answering....money, I can't afford it...not on my pay.."
"Where do you work?...I'm sorry, I'm a little too nosy, just tell
me to shut up." "Really, its okay, Brian.At the diner...not my ideal job."
"It might not be the best, but I could use some help around my home...I
lost my eyesight in my accident, and I can't really keep up...I'd be happy
to pay...If you want to get out of the diner career." Ariel's eyes perked up,
she hated working at the diner, she always came home smelling like fast
food and her feet ached."I'd love to get out the diner...I'm pretty good at housework."
Brian smiled..."Great, here's my address.How soon..." "I can start tomorrow." "Well, that
answered my question.Talk to you tomorrow then."

Ariel arrived bright and early the next day."Morning Brian, its Ariel" She said, waiting
for her invite in."Oh! Hi Ariel, come on in." He opened the door for Ariel, and waited
for her to come in.
Ariel looked over Brian's home, it was beautiful! the perfect family
home, she could feel Brian's pain, It was obvious he was planning to have
a large family with his wife."Your home is beautiful, Brian!" She finally said,
breaking the awarkdness."Thanks Ariel!, I haven't been in the basement since
Carey and Jonathan died...I used to play bowling with Johnathan all the time."
He looked away, recalling the day his family was taken from him."Do you play ariel"
"Honestly, I never even picked up a ball." "Then let me show you how.." She looked at
him curiously."You can still play?" "We'll see won't we?" He responded."Well, you'll see.I don't
do much seeing." -awkward silence." "Sorry." He finally said."My jokes are rather cheesy."
His first throw, he nearly knocked down all the pins."Wow! You
really are a good bowler." "Thanks! Your turn...Its not hard, I promise."
Brian and Ariel swapped spots, she hesitantly picked up the ball, eyeballing the pins.
-THUD!- "What was that?" Brian asked, startled from the random thud.
"Its a good thing you didn't see that." Ariel said, getting up embarrassingly.
"What happened?" He asked, curiously."I'm not saying...Its embarrasing.Your
turn Brian."
On his nest roll, he landed flat on his face."Oh Brian! You okay?" Ariel
asked, concerned for his well being."I've had worse accidents...I'm fine."
-awkward silence- "Sorry, I can't help the cheesy jokes." He got up slowly..
"Oh, that hurt...I think I need a break." He said, rubbing his back.
"Are you sure you need my help?" Ariel asked."You seem to get
around quite well!" Brian made his way over."Can I be honest with you?"
"Of course, what's on your mind Brian?" "I can handle things well....I was just
rather lonely...in this house, it was too quiet, wanted someone to talk to or
at least know someone was here if I needed someone." "Really?" She asked
puzzled."Yeah...And when I heard you needed help...I felt obliged to offer...
I'd understand if you wanted to go home..." "Of course not, I still want to help
out some how! And I don't mind being roommates at all Brian!" "Really? I hope
we can be friends" He responded." "Me to, Brian.."

"You make me nervous being in that pool!" Ariel said, approaching Brian.
"I'm blind, not incapable of swimming." Brian responded ignoring Ariel's concern.
"How about a swim?" Brian pointed toward the pool."Uh, no...that's okay!"
Ariel said nervously.."Here, let me help you" Brian gently pushed Ariel jokingly
into the pool, clothes and all.
Ariel screamed and yelled like she was dying."Someone get me out!"
She yelled so loud, Susie came over, thinking Ariel was in trouble, susie
made her way to the pool's edge.
And dived right in, heading toward Ariel.
Susie took Ariel's arm gently, pulling her toward the edge and nudged
her up on to the sidewalk."Good girl Susie! Thank you." Brian shook his
head "Don't you think you over reacted just a bit." He finally asked."I hate you!" Ariel
responded."Don't talk to me!"
Brian got changed and made his way into the house."I think you are
being a little dramatic..." ..."Call it that if you must, but you're not the one
who almost drowned." She responded."The pool is barely 4 feet deept." Brain
commented."No!" Ariel said "Not the pool, way back when….forget it, you'll probably
just make fun of me like you are now." "I'm sorry..." Brian said."I'm not trying
to make fun of you...I would never.." "My mother's brother tried to drown me and
my mother when I was 6...I'm not a fan of pools or swimming..."
"Maker...If I knew...I wouldn't have, Ariel, I'm sorry." Brian said remorsefully.
He tried to comfort ariel the best the he could."You didn't know...but that's why
I freaked out..." "I understand....you had a traumatic event, I really do understand,
and I won't do that again...I promise."
"Thank you." Ariel softly responded..."Could you do me a favor though?" She asked
"Of course, what is it?" "Please let go of me." Brian just realized he had taken a hold
of Ariel, holding her in his arms."Oh....I'm sorry." It took him a few minutes to finally
let go."Thank you."

"That was a beautiful song, Brian.I didn't know you liked music." He looked down awkwardly, rubbing his neck
"Used to be a hobby of mine, until I lost my family...just didn't have it in me anymore." "And you do now?" Ariel
asked curiously. "Yeah! Guess I'm feeling inspired."
the next morning...
"You're right next to me aren't you?" He asked, looking in Ariel's direction.
"You really do have your other senses hightened." She said, looking back at
him."Yes, but I've also gotten used to having you by myside...So it feels awkward
when you aren't..."
Susie was tired of not being taken to the park, and kept whining and
looking at her leash, until they caved in and brought her to the central
park.
"Oh, text message!" Ariel said, digging through her purse for her
phone." "Stop fooling around with your phone!" Brian shouted.He grabbed
her phone and stuck in the glove box."You aren't getting it back until we are home."
"Someone being cranky?" She asked."No! That's how accidents happen." "Relax, Brian.
I was just going to peak for a minute." He shook his head."One minute is all it takes."
"Alright, will meet you at mcduffy's, in a bit.Bye Andrew." Ariel hung
up the phone."Are you okay being here alone for a bit?" Ariel asked.
"You going somewhere?' Brian responded curiously."I have a date tonight."
"A date?' Brian asked, puzzled."Yes, Brian.A date.You know, like two
people going somewhere to get to know each other...." He stopped her mid sentence.
"I know what a date is, that's not what I meant...never mind, yes...I'll be fine by myself...
go..."
Three hours went by.Andrew never showed up, Ariel was stood up, once
again.She spilled her sorrows to the mixologist and then went outside for fresh air.
back at the house...
"How about a little stop by Mcduffy's tonight? Brian asked Susie,waving
his leash around...
"Hi Kaylee, have you seen Ariel?" Brian asked."Oh, yes she's outside."
He raised his eyebrow."Was she will someone?" He asked."No, her date
stood her up.She's by herself." Brian was shocked at Kaylee's response."Why
would he do that?!" The mixologist shrugged."Beats me."
Brian felt Ariel's presence as soon as he exited the building.He knew
he was at the right table."Is this seat taken?" He asked pointing to the chair.
"Brian? What are you doing here?" "got a little bored at home, and you kept
raving about this place, wanted to try it myself...Kaylee told me what happened.."
"Once again." Ariel said annoyed at her bad luck with dating."Don't
be too hard on yourself, Ariel...just means he isn't the right person for you...
or anyone for that matter, if that's how he treats people." She shrugged."I guess."
"Are you hungry?" Brian asked, offering to get her a drink and food."Sure, that would
be nice."
"Blast it! Someone's dog keeps sniffing me." A grumpy man in a well
pressed suit shouted."Susie! Get over here." Brian yelled."Sorry about that
Daniel."
"Brian, you might want to be careful drinking that much." Brian
had already guzzled down 4 keg drinks."You might get juiced."
Brian hiccuped."Juiced? Never, let's go inside."
Brian fumbled into Ariel, nearly knocking her down."Brian! you are
juiced.Its time to go home." Brian fought with ariel, holding her hands.
"I'm not juiced....see"
"Okay, you really are juiced and its time to go home.." She demanded
trying to grab his hand."Never!" He shouted and fell back.
"I can see this is going to be a long night." She sighed and managed
to drag him to the car.
"I don't wanna go inside!" Brian cried, as ariel dragged him along.
"You can't stay out here like this Brian!" "Yes I can!" She rolled her
eyes."Fine, have it your way."
"Ariel? Where you going?" Brian cried out."I'm going to bed, you
can stay there." "But I can't get up on my own." "You had your
chance Brian."
"Ariel?...Ariel?? Hello! Don't leave me out here!"
"Great! Its raining....."

"Rise and shine sleeping beauty!" Ariel shouted, purposely waking Brian up, knowing
he probably had a pounding headache.
"Maker! What is wrong with you?" Brian asked rubbing his eyes, and
stretching.He wasn't ready to get out of bed just yet."Aww, does someone
have a headache? You should after all that nectar."
"Where are you?" He asked, trying to feel for Ariel."Right behind you!"
Ariel once again shouted into the megaphone."Stop doing that! you're
going to give me a heart attack!"
Ariel couldn't control her laughter."It's not funny..." He said coldly.
"It most certainly is....but I think you learned your lesson."
"Eww..Susie you stink.Brian doesn't bathe you does he? Come here,
its bath time."
"I guess I behaved poorly." Brian said, starting to feel a bit better
from last night. "It was embarrassing having to drag you out of there
like a two year old.Ariel responded."I don't remember anything from last night..
just woke up outside and wet...I suppose I have you to thank for that?" He
said annoyingly. "You deserved it...and you don't remember anything at all?
You made yourself look like a fool...I'll leave it at that." "I'm sorry, Ariel...please
don't be too mad?" "We're good...I have to go pick up something from my mother."
"So I get to meet mom?" Brian said teasingly."No you don't, you get
to stay in the car." Ariel snapped."What? Why?" Brian responded concerned.
"Because she'll get the wrong idea....and we are not putting any ideas into
her frail mind."
"My little ariel finally brought someone over." Melody said, delighted
to meet brian."Mother! Stop it.Its not like that, we're just roommates, now
where is my package?" Ariel snapped at her mother, trying to change the subject.
"In the closet." Melody responded."So Brian, I heard a little bit about what happened,
I'm glad you're okay, and Ariel is helping."
"Let's go Brian." Ariel called, trying to pry him away from her mother."She's single
you know...and a nice person." Melody said, dropping hints."Mother! Stop it." Brian
laughed."I already know she's a great person." "Oh my...Brian don't encourage her.
Let's go."
"I really hate you right now...I really do." Ariel said...as they headed home.
"Why? Your mother is really nice..." He responded."Because you were encouraging
her! and putting thoughts into her head! You should have confirmed we are just roommates."
Ariel sighed.
"Might I ask a favor of you Ariel?" Brian asked cautiously."I don't know Brian...
does involve misleading my family members?" She asked..."Ouch....No....So
its been almost a year now since my accident......Carey and Jonathan loved New
England....I promised I would take them, but we never got to go....I want..." Ariel
interupted."You want to go in memory of your family? That's really sweet, Brian!"
He smiled."Yeah, but I don't want to go alone....Would you mind coming along with me?"
He asked her..."I'd love to Brian...long as you don't give my mother ideas...."
"No promises." He said."I really really hate you right now Brian." Ariel
responded,and headed inside to go to bed.

"Thank you for coming with me." Brian said, as they got off their bus.
Weather in New England was certainly much different than Colarado, Ariel
thought as she looked around at her surroundings."Oh, my pleasure! I'm glad
I could help you."
"So what does the town look like?" Brian asked sadly, he couldn't
see the area where he and his wife dreamed about living in."Its
beautiful, and old...and quaint, very lovely town!" The arrived
shortly at their hotel.
The Inn was built in 1853 and held its charm through many years
of storms, wars, and celebrations.
"Are you sure I won't drown?" Ariel asked as she looked down at
the pool."I Promise Ariel, I won't let you get hurt..trust me." "Alright,
but let me take it slowly.."
"Its too deep....I don't like this!" She started to panic."Don't panic,
its okay, see?" He took her hand gently and pulled her closer..."We
can do a little bit each day...you'll be over your fear in no time."
"Thank you for helping me overcome my fear...I appreciate that
brian!" Ariel said. "Its the least I could do, Ariel..you already helped
me overcome my fear.." She looked at him curiously."Really? What
fear was that?" He looked away."Let's go get a drink." He said, abruptly
changing the subject.
Later that night, they rented a house boat so Brian could take it out
into the bay, to toss flowers over board for Jonathan and Carey.

"What are you doing?" Ariel asked, as Brian laid his hand on her
cheek.

Brian stood there waiting for Ariel to say something..."Are you still
there? Say something?" There was a pause..."You shouldn't have done
that." She finally said and turned to leave." Brian said nothing, but stood
there listening to her go inside...

Ariel didn't respond, she sat there in complete silence...
Brian: Fine...I'll find someone else to talk to.
Brian got up and found his way over to the guitar.
Brian: It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart

Ariel: Stop it, you're embarrassing me.
Brian: Its amazing, the power of music has restored your speech.
Ariel rolled her eyes and left....Brian knew she had left....
Brian: Hey...don't leave me stranded here.
She made her way down to the beach, naturally Brian followed her
with his guitar.

"Still not talking to me?" Brian asked as Ariel came out of the bathroom.
She walked by him, not even acknowledging him."I guess that answers my
question." He commented.
"Good morning, Brian..Ariel with you?" Melody asked, looking around
for her daughter."No, I came here alone.I wanted to talk to you."
"Really?" Melody's voice raised in excitement."Please come in."
"Let me guess, you want to ask something about Ariel?" Melody asked,
already sensing his questions."I suppose so..." He started to ask...."If
its why she seems so sheltered, she has her reasons..." Melody interupted.
"Let's close the door." She continued "She was in a bad relationship..Her boyfriend
had walked out on her, but didn't want her meeting anyone else....He would stalk
her for days on end....He broke into our house once, and threatened to kill her, if
she didn't take him back.We had to get the police involved..." Melody hesitated...
"It didn't end there, he left threats on her phone, sabotaged any relationship she
tried to have.Eventually we left, and moved here..." Melody stopped to gather herself.
"Its not you...The fact that she has helped you, is a miracle to me.."
"Are you interested in her Brian?" Melody asked..Brian hesitated."What? No, just
worried about her is all." Melody looked at Brian, she didn't believe him."Are
you sure about that?" Brian didn't answer."You know its okay to be interested in
her right?" Awkwardly Brian excused himself and headed home.
"I need to talk to you." Brian said, taking Ariel's hand to bring over
to the couch."I have no interest in talking, Brian." She finally said,"That's
fine, I'll talk you listen.Sit."
"Are you still sitting there?" Brian asked leaning toward Ariel."I'm
here..." Brian lowered his head..."I spoke to your mother.." Ariel looked
over.."About what?!" He sighed "About why you keep shutting me out."

in annoyance."That's not what I was trying...I'm just genuinely wanting
to know about you." Ariel rolled her eyes."And what did my mother say?"
"Everything that explains why you're scared..." Ariel got up to
leave."That's a lie, I'm not afraid of anything...."
"Ariel, wait..don't go." Brian pulled her back toward him."Your mother
told me about what you all went through....I'm sorry you had to go through
that...but not everyone is like that." Ariel tried to wiggle out of his grasp.
"Ariel....I understand....but to shut people out, that's not fair to you, or
the other person..." He pulled her closer..."I heard enough.." She managed
to say..
"Please trust me..." Brian managed to whisper, holding her close...

"I needed to talk to." Ariel said as she down next to Brian.
"Really? What about?" He responded. "I finally got accepted
into medical school."
"I'm moving to california." She finally spoke...Brian looked over
in her direction."What? When? Why?" He finally managed to say
something."I'll be packing tonight and leaving tomorrow.." Ariel
said fiddling with her fingers."That answers my WHEN, but WHY?"
He said, trying to figure out what was going on."I have my reasons...
I should probably go pack...and get some rest." Ariel got up and headed
for home.
"You can't go..." Brian whispered, as he tried to make his way to
the door."Ariel?...."
Brian decided to visit his wife's and son's grave.He felt the tears
start pouring down his face."What is wrong with me?" He finally
said. "Why can't I keep anyone in my life?"
"First you and Jonathan....now I can't even keep her...." His voice
broke off as he finally collapsed to the ground.
"I didn't think I'd ever see you cry." a voice echoed from behind
Brian.A light began to glow around the pond.Brian couldn't get any
words out...But carey spoke."There's nothing wrong with you...but
you should go after her Brian, don't let her go.You don't have to worry
about us anymore.."
Jonathan held his arms out asking for a hug from his father.
"I'm okay." Johnathan said holding his father.."Mom and I have
fun together. Don't worry about us.Bye Bye daddy!' Jonathan said
as he let go of his father.
"Come Jonathan, its time to go..." Carey waved for her son..
"Don't wait, Brian...go after her, you'll regret it if you don't."
Brian was once again left alone in the dark.

Brian made his way home from the graveyard, he called out for Ariel.
But there was no response.She wasn't suppose to leave until tomorrow.
"Ariel?" Brian fumbled around in the dark, trying to find her.
She was nowhere to be found, perhaps she went to her mothers.
Exhausted, Brian collapsed on the bed with susie.
The next morning Ariel waited at the bus stop with her suitcases.
It would be another hour before the bus would come.She heard barking
in the distance and recognized it as Susie's bark.
"Susie what are you doing here?" Ariel asked, as Brian approached.
"She's with me." "Brian? What are you doing here?"
"I came here to try and convince you to stay." Brian said, trying
to reach out to Ariel."You're making a mistake.." Ariel pulled away.
"I have places to go." She went to grab her things."Wait! Please." Brian
said, pulling his guitar out.
Brian:I could hardly believe it

back."Do what?" Brian asked. "Pull at my emotions." "The same way

"Ariel...I don't know what what he did to you to make you

I would never do anything to hurt you..." She looked up..."I'm sorry..." is all
she whispered."Its not your fault." He reassured her.
"Hey there....I heard you singing to that lovely girl, and thought
you have a talent there...Any interest in performing at the park?"
The propitor handed Brian his card and asked him to call him.

Charles said looking around at his new home.'My pleasure, while I have
you here...I wanted to ask you a question."
"Ask away." Charles said, waiting for Brian."So, I really come to care
for your daughter, and I would like to ask for her hand." Brian finally said.
"I think that is a wonderful idea, Brian.Of course you have our Blessing.My
wife will be thrilled."
"What are you two talking about? You seem awfully suspicious." Ariel said,
as she approached Brian and Charles."Oh, its nothing." Brian commented.
After visiting with her parents, Brian asked to go to the park.
"Ariel, I have something of importance to ask you." Brian said, gently
holding her shoulders. "What is is it?" Ariel asked, curiously.
"Ariel....I know you been through so much in your life, but I promise
I won't let anyone hurt you again.Will you marry me?" Brian got down on
one knee and asked her to marry him."You and my parents aren't pranking me
are you?" She looked around for her family."I promise, I'm honestly asking you
What do you say?" Ariel decided to play hard to get."Well, I don't know....I just don't
want to be pressured." Brian pinched her hand as a message to "Just answer me."
"Ouch! Let go...Yes, I'll marry you..."
"Are you sure?" He asked her. "Absolutely sure!"

"Hi Brian, its your doctor.I have an exciting proposition for you, mind
coming down to the office?" His doctor said, waiting for Brian's response.
"I'll be there as soon as I can."
"Its a good thing I can't see this machine...How many times have
you performed this surgery?" Brian asked, waiting anxiously in the examination
room."Never...You are the first one we are attempting to restore sight on." The doctor
responded."Forget it, let me out of here.I'm not being your guinea pig." Brian said trying
to get up."That's your choice, but it has a good chance of working..." "Well, we can try, but
if I start to get uncomfortable, we quit." Brian said, sitting back down.After 4 hrs of surgery,
Brian laid on the examination table waiting for the doctor to pull off his eye mask."Now, if this
worked, the light will hurt your eyes, Brian...and you may need glasses or contacts in the future."
"Alright, just take this off of me, I'm ready to go home now."
Brian opened his eyes slowly, the lights caused some pain and he had
to squint.The operation was a success, He was able to see.His doctor
asked him not to do too much work yet and to rest after the procedure,
no driving or operating heavy machinery quite yet.
"You're home!" Ariel said running down the stairs.She had work
to do on a cliant's home and wasn't able to go to the doctor appointment.
Brian was finally able to see his fiance.
(and sometimes sims make the perfect expressions at the right time!)
Brian stood there watching Ariel descend the stairs.
"Did it work?" Ariel asked curiously waiting to see Brian's response.
"Have you always had red hair?" He asked smiling at her as he took her
hands.She knew the surgery was a success.
