    I was under the impression that this was more wide open?

    So I've started to build my simmy his home. I zoom out but still Im stuck looking at about 3 houses in the neighborhood, I was under the impression that I could scroll the screen around and go anywhere I wanted in the neighborhood, is that not true?

      Press the M key or the zoom icon. It's a little less cool than Spore, but I'm sure they implemented it in this way for optimization's sake.

      a white circle with a - magnifying glass should appear or click the big skyscraper button in the corner of your screen.

      Yeah, you can do that.

      Try to go into Live mode. I think it restricts you to only being able to view your home lot when you're in build or buy mode.

      Ok, that would likely explain it, Im in build mode.
