Can't play the sims 3 on mac

Hello, I hope you all can help me. I've just recently bought a mac and downloaded the sims 3 with a couple of expansion packs (generations, university life) through origin. The download went perfectly and everything but when I click the launcher and press the blue play button, the blue screen and green diamond pops up like its about to open the game and then goes away after 3 seconds and nothing else happens. Please help, I really enjoyed playing this game on my PC. Thank you so much in advance!

When you say that nothing else happens after you have seen the screen with the green diamond, does the game crash to desktop? If you can open the launcher does it all look as expected - for example is the game patched up-to-date and are all of the expansion you installed highlighted in the row along the bottom?
