want to buy a new computer ...

Hi everyone.

Im a long time Sim's fan from the first series including sims city. But Im pretty clueless when it comes to computers, specs / mods etc (eg i have no idea what these are). I just want to buy a computer hard drive (already have monitor / keyboard / mouse etc) that will play all my sims 3 games + extras and when sims 4 comes out will play that all smoothly. It will not be used for any other game it is the only game i am interested in.

It is frustrating trying to research online as i don't know what most of the info means, so far all I've found is Alienware but it seems very pricey...

There are all these "build your own" and that's great if you know what you are doing... I wouldn't expect that i need to spend more then 1k on a new machine but I'm not sure either.

Please help I just want a name (Needs to be able to be brought in Australia). Or a list of specs - i think that's what they are called.

Please help

Well first off don't buy a pre built, they're nearly always overpriced.

Buy your own parts, take them to a pc repair store and they should build it for you.

As for specs I'm not sure because I don't know what the sims 4's required specs are
could probably help you more if I knew what the sims 4 needed haha but I don't think it'd be too expensive

You'll want Windows 7 for the OS because TS3 isn't going to work very well with Windows 8 and lot of people have issues trying to get the game to work with Windows 8.I'd go with having Windows 7 and would use the Pro version if I also wanted to run TS2 on that computer as well as TS3.

Although Windows 8 took me awhile to get used to - I LOVE it now and my games all work very efficiently on it. I honestly can't complain. Plus it has a fun of ton free apps and games on here. It's way better than windows 7, but a lot of people disagree. I'm just not one of them! :D

Best idea is to get a custom build, I got one from pc specialists (only in uk) and it cost £1200, pre built it would of been around £2000, look on the internet for pc building sites, a lot will tell you what parts are comparable and what is best to choose, although try for one has a forum so you can ask questions if you get stuck with stuff

    hey kjmaybe

Kat's list is a good one and i personally dont think you need to have a system built if you'r shopping for a budget gaming system. many times they are the same price without having to add the extra cost of building in my opinion its when you start wanting all the bells and whistles that building your own makes better sense.

i do want to suggest though if you want to have a gaming system built for you that you have a gamer build it vs say a big box computer store.

and shopping for gaming system - brands like, ibuypower, stormdigitial c.yberpowerPC are competitors of alienware - and you should find their prices better

also try shopping for your computer at gaming computer sites, like if you are in the US newegg.com, tigerdirect or even go directly to the computer maker and customize options.

and you can post your options in tech and folks will help guide you further, good luck

hey tad since i know you dont use OS windows 8 and many many simmers do and have no issues with using windows 8 or 8.1 with the game you may want to just do what i do and just share you have a preference for windows 7

Hi All thanks for all your advice you have all been very helpful. Kat2211 your list has been very helpful. What I've got from everyone is that windows 8 is kind like going to mac for the first time takes a bit to get your head around but once you are there you don't look back.... Also you all seem to agree that getting a system built rather then buying it already built is the best way to go... so wish me luck i'll get my list ready and hope like hell that the guy on the other side of the counter wont take me for a fool :) cheers all and any more info keep it coming :)
