Game keeps crashing, Windows 8.1?

So I recently just got a new computer. I reinstalled all of my sims games (which was a major process!) and reinstalled all of my store content. I have NO CC. My game keeps crashing about 30 minutes into my game. I'm really sick of it. This is a brand new computer! What could possibly be the cause of this? I updated to windows 8.1, so could that possibly be a problem? I have no idea what to do, any help is appreciated.

have you done the DEP thing?

my win8.1 alienware used to crash too, turns out it was an overheat issue because i put my laptop on top of cloth (my quilt). now it doesnt crash anymore ever since i dont cover the fan (except if i play for a long period of hours).
i dont know if you have the same case as mine though.

No I haven't done the DEP thing, what is it exactly?
Mine could be an overheating issue, but I'm playing on a desktop computer and not a laptop.
