How do I mass populate an unpopulated world?

smjjamessmjjames Posts: 1,815 New Member
It might turn out to be something very simple, but this is the first time I've used CC worlds. I was looking through the ones I downloaded and so far, they have been unpopulated. The four I have looked at so far I didn't really like anyways (two had houses that all pretty much looked the same), but when I came to the Champs Les Sims deluxe one, I thought it would be populated, but it isn't.

Since it's such a nice looking world, I want to keep that one, but how do I populate it? When I looked in edit town, I saw no residents. I have Twallans SP mod, so I don't know if that will take care of it or not.

In my experience, yes, Twallan's SP will populate the town just like EA's SP would. Probably better, actually.

I will be interested in hearing about other's methods, but I do it one of two ways. I place one sim in the world and skill them up and play them for a few days. This allows EA generated sims to populate the consignment specialists, mixologists, etc. Then I add families that I have created from edit town into the world.

If you don't want a lot of EA generated sims, then since you have Twallan's SP, a nifty way to populate is to set the bed check to true on the SP. Create or download households with multiple sims in them. Then place one or more empty unfurnished houses in the world. Add your households to these empty houses, groups of up to 8 sims each, and make sure you have given them plenty of money. Within a few days they usually will move out on their own, a few at a time, to furnished houses in the world. Some of these sims will become service sims, and you can always go back and minimally furnish the houses after they move out.

You would really be able to do this if you create maybe 3 households of about 6-8 sims each. That would be enough sims to get started on populating most worlds. SP takes care of the rest.

edit: it just occurred to me that you could probably also place these households on empty lots and they would move out into the furnished houses. I'm going to try that soon!

The game wouldn't let me place a household on an empty lot. But I placed 4 YA's in a 1 bedroom home and some of them move out within the first day.

All you need to do to make a lot move-inable is to place one item on the lot, then the game considers it built ... I think. I seem to remember doing this before.

This is how I would seed neighborhoods back in sims 2 :P

    God Bless,

Sort of similar to what was posted above, I have a whole bunch of families in my library to populate just about any city. But dropping a couple of households consisting of 8 unrelated YAs into small homes works quite well.

A very slow way Ive used, is to visit all the residential high-rises and call everyone down for a meet & greet. (Useful for charisma-based sims as well). After making friends with npcs, (repairmen, repo, social services, maid, etc), some will occasionally 'graduate' to Townie, and get a regular job.

You have two solutions, both involving mods.

Solution 1: Use Twallan's Story progression and set rapid immigration to 20. The Rapid Immigration menu is buried fairly deep in the mod and does not immediately appear. So finding it can be something of a pain.

Solution 2: Use Pescado's Awesome Mod. Type the command "spawnmoreoverlords" and about 50 sims will spawn in your world immediately. But here's the catch, and it's undocumented: you just need to enable the debug commands first. Do "setconfig enabledebugcommands true". (The last bit comes from Pescado himself.)

spawnmoreoverlords? lol, sounds like a cheat for Doom or something.

Anyways, I DO have Twallans SP. Thanks for the tip though.

I realize this is a dead thread but spawnmoreoverlords comes from Starcraft, the Zerg I think. xD

Anyway, I am having this problem too. Hopefully I can sort it now!

If you're using Twallan's Story Progression, there are instructions on his site here: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/StoryProgression+FAQ#x-How does Immigration work

Scroll down to How Does Immigration Work and in particular, check out the info right under that about the population gauge for how to set Rapid Immigration. I have used this method and it works great, but be prepared for some lagging until all the sims are moved in. I would also wait until your service personnel are in place such as your mixologists and register operators to cut down on some of the pauses.

    Good luck! :)

Edited because - jeesh - so many errors!

    mikitta47,

You need to have all the basics on a residential lot, fridges, beds, and bathrooms, otherwise sims don't move in. At least that's my experience.

The two mods I mentioned above will do bed counts. If you don't have enough beds, a family will not be moved in. As I recall, Awesome mod does a crib count, so if you want babies and toddlers, you need cribs. Also, as I recall, the bed counting feature in Twallan's mods can be turned off or turned down.
