It Absolutely IS Possible to Remove the Horse's Saddle, et al

I have been unable to locate the thread in which I agreed with another player that it was too bad we couldn't remove the blanket, saddle and bit/bridle from the horse when they weren't being ridden. Today, when I managed to purchase a couple of horses in my Main save, via Erik's brothers, I made the happy discovery we can 'change outfits' for the horse. It also showed up under horse care. Why it didn't appear in my other save is curious, but you can bet your boots, I'll be exploring that one later today. I created this thread to get the word out to those who still think it's not possible.

I don't have the pack but i do think they showed it as horses having 2 categories in cas one for riding and one for "everyday"

I also think you might be able to add multiple outfits but don't quote me on that

I will quote you in order to confirm it. I haven't made a full suite of outfits for my horse, but I did see that it was possible. Now, since I haven't done it, I don't know if there's a way to specify which one they use.

When you are about to mount the horse, it changes into riding 'outfit'.
And when you dismount, it changes back autonomously.

Ah. When I went back into my game, I realized you can change the outfit. What it doesn't do is remove the saddle, blanket, bit/bridle. I rolled back the save to start before the purchase of the horses took place, to create them both in CAS. There are three slots for outfits, but you cannot fill a slot without a saddle, et al on the horse. I'm not as gleeful as I was when I started this threat.

When the horse is not being ridden, and everyday outfit is chosen before you take the horse to CAS, you can remove the everyday things in CAS by clicking on the red X that shows up at the top corner of the outfit that was on the horse, and then the horse has nothing on it for that clothing slot. My horse has only the flowers on the head and tail, because that is what I chose. But I could have chosen to not have anything on her. To choose what is on the horse for riding, make sure the riding outfit slot is chosen before going into CAS. I assume you can do the same thing for that slot, but try it to find out.

edit: It is not possible to ride bareback. There is a default saddle and bridle if you do not choose one.

Cool. Thank you so very much for the tips. I was getting really frustrated, that once an outfit was chosen, you had no other use that for the red X, too. to achieve my goal. Thank you!:)

And I think I read somewhere that riding bareback becomes a game option, when a Sim has a high level of the riding skill. If any of you have a Sim with level 10 riding skill, is this correct? Do you have then the option to ride bareback?

I cannot find an option to ride bareback with level 10, and it is not specified in the level up notification, unsure where the info comes from.

I have however found a simple way to generate horses without a saddle: use the genetics tool to create a foal from an existing horse, then age them to adult in the same window, more often than not they grow up without a saddle. I have had no luck for the bridle, it appears you have to have one.
I've tested it in live mode, the sims do ride the horse in the riding outfit they were generated with, with no saddle.
