Why can't Sims get drunk ?

«1
I think we all know by now that the Sims caters to a wider audience than simply children. So they can woohoo but not get drunk or tipsy ? They have drinks but they have no effect ?

This would be epic.

I just think.... why imply it if you won't even do it , you know ?

In WoW you get drunk and various other mmos, even in Dragon Age and Mass Effect

The odd thing is in Sims Medieval you couldn't have a drunkard and it was called getting drunk, so I'm not sure why they don't do it here.

1/ its never implied that the drinks are alcoholic

2/ the game is rated T for teens, probably why no smoking/booze/drugs

I thought the drinks did add moodlets. I know for sure that the protein shakes give you an energized moodlet.

You could drink a whole bottle of the best nectar in TS3 and not get drunk, but the moodlets were still great.

I havent actually tried to in Sims 4 but in Sims 3 you could get drunk of "Nectar" and " Juice " they just didn't call it getting drunk

I think it is implied because bars in real life don't usually serve exotic juices. The drinks have similar names to real life alcoholic drinks you can find at a bar.

Also, the rating point is valid but still, alcohol is a common thing in real life, kids are exposed to it in many different ways specially teens even if its illegal for them to drink it. Point is, if they made it so that only adult sims could get tipsy, I don't see the controversy. Alcohol isn't illegal / uncommon.

You squish grapes to make nectar and it increases in quality if you age it specifically in a basement in TS3. Nectar clearly = wine.

What do you think this gameplay implies?

Without a drunkard trait and a sim that's slightly buzzed at all hours of the day, it's impossible to make a completely accurate simself.

We might get introduced to it later? The kegs from University in TS3 got you "juiced" and you could juice make out and woohoo.

"Alcohol References" (Reference to and/or images of alcoholic beverages) are one of those things the ESRB considers when looking at a game... the more of those you have, the better your odds of a more mature rating. Calling them "juice" and "nectar" avoids all that. Pretty simple and relatively obvious, really.

I also lament the fact there is no drunkard trait :'(

I wouldn't be opposed to Juice and Nectar being named what we really know they all are, as long as only young adults and upwards could drink it.
It's kind of sad that I have to point out that anything I say is only just my opinion and may be a different one from someone else.
