AVI CUSTOM FILE VIDEO CLIPS

lately when I try to upload my video clips to photobucket it says custom files then I click all files and I see my clips as avi, I upload, it shows that it uploads but the video will not be there when the upload is done.
are the clips supposed to be avi's?
