RETIREMENT PENSION GLITCH

So my sim was a level 10 firefighter and then I moved to a new town, and I ended up having to be at a level 5. I wanted to get back up to my original level so I could get paid more, but eventually decided that because my sim was now an elder, he should retire. So I clicked retire and this came up:
Are you sure you want to retire? If Jacob Reed retires now he will earn a pension paying -372,224 simoleans a week.

I don't know what to do! Help?

I'd use testing cheats and the mail box to pick a new random job and set the level to one, then re-pick firefighter and level 10, go to work 1 day to be sure then retire again. It's using cheats, but only to restore it to what it was before the game broke it.
