Since I downloaded the Sims 3 on my brand new laptop (which meets all system requirements), it's worked flawlessly, especially with the Adventures and High-End Loft expansions that I have. But today I purchased the Pets Expansion and installed it, and all of the sudden things are going wrong.
The first thing that happened is that, out of the blue, it failed to recognize my hardware. The second thing I noticed was an outrageous and irritating Map View glitch ( more on that in a bit). I followed a Google search to the only detailed solution I could find to the graphics card/hardware problem (
http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Getting_new_graphics_cards_recognized_by_the_game ), but my DeviceConfig file shows only ---Options--- and ---Default Options---, so that didn't work for me.
However, the thing that is bothering me the most is the Map View glitch, which did not occur before installation of Pets. I'm not sure if the studio is public, but the video of the error is located in my Studio under Media.
If it is not public, here is an explanation:
Everything is odd and gray, and flickering. You can see the general contours of the map's shape and terrain but it's all glitching out and covered in flashing planes of gray. This happens only in the Map View mode.
If anyone has suggestions, please make them!
SYSTEM INFO:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3120M

GRAPHICS CARD:
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
If there is some sudden impediment in the graphics card, then I am very confused, as there were zero errors beforehand.
Comments
See if that helps since you do have onboard graphics.
Thanks for trying, but nothing there is within my power or is useful to me. Sorry!
at least that how it worked out for me

so unfortunately your system is designed for general use not gaming. i3 processor and the intel intergrated card sound like they just cant meet the demands of the EP.
things to try confirm your hard drive has lots of free space.
keep your system plugged in while playing
turn off background programs
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/657154.page
keep the system cool, consider investing in cooling pad
if nothing is working then u may need to consider uninstalling, sorry.
As it seems, my game is spiraling, so I guess I'll just have to not play it until I can find some way to get another graphics card. It's started freezing every couple of seconds and then resuming, and it's been crashing recently, as well. My options (such as aging, as it's the only frustrating thing) keep resetting to no aging, so my game is somewhat at a standstill anyway.
Tweet me @samwitts2
yea unfortunately most laptops cant add or replace cards as for external cards well it can be done but i wouldnt recommended it
see this http://lifehacker.com/5851902/turn-a-low+powered-laptop-into-a-gaming-machine-with-an-external-video-card-dock
honestly i would try uninstalling pets..it may suck u cant play that EP but its possible u could play the game without it.
