what's the deal with the imaginary friend?

i have searched the forum for this topic but i still haven't found what i am looking for. (hey U2 song)!
my sims grew up with her IF; be sties and all; both became young adults; and she learned to make the imaginary friend potion via the chemistry set. but: '****' for IF is not intractable any more in her inventory. he grew up with her. she is an adult now; is this too late to change him into a real sim? **** just sits her inventory and doesn't appear as a IF to her anymore? where did i miss the chance to give **** his potion? do you have to do this before you sims changes into an adult?
any help would be ok.

did the sim interact with the child the entire time of childhood and did the child at anytime tell the IF to "leave them alone?"

I think if you place the IF on the ground it will become big again and possibly age up. Though I wouldn't save unless it goes off without a glitch. If it works fine (mine has done this before) then give them the potion.

yes they interacted the whole time. that's why i can't figure this out. doesn't the IF age at the same time as your sim? do you know?

The IF automatically goes into the sims inventory when they become adults. I've only been able to make it real after this once. I tried another time and it glitched out and I stupidly saved and quit. The game was corrupt after that. So, I suggest you try what I mentioned above and make sure it doesn't glitch in any way and then save as (using a different name for the town) instead of just save. Just to see how it goes.

My sims IF never went back in his backpack after I set it out. They did grow up together and I had to keep the relationship high until I was able to make the potion. I had tried too soon once when their friendship wasn't all the way up, so of course I then cheated and dragged relationship to max.

It should work as a Young Adult. This is what worked for me:

1. Turn on cheats.
2. Place the IF doll onto the ground.
3. The IF should change into Sim form. If not, use Twallan's DebugEnabler to force it so.
4. Drag the relationship bar all the way to the right such that they are best friends.
5. You should have the option when you click on the IF to make them a real Sim.

Make sure your Sim has the Metamorphosis potion in his/her inventory. And yes, this even works for a Young Adult, although I prefer to do it when they are children or teens.

i have had some stuck in their inventory also. now i try to give them the potion as soon as they become best friends, hopefully as children. i have wondered if you can give an IF doll to a toddler who didn't get one and will it be able to transform.

What do you mean stuck? You should be able to drag them out of the inventory and place them on the floor, even if they don't tranform. :? There's something wrong if you can't.
