I have found that with Generations, I needed to change my gameplay a bit. Since lifestages can be longer, I have a lot of "days" but no more hours in the day. I had to slow things down and be patient.
Another thing you can do to mix things up is to download a sim from the exchange and play that one or in CAS, hit the button that generates traits for you. Sometimes it's just a matter of playing a sim with much different traits than you'd normally choose.
Do you have one lifetime trait you seem to gravitate to? Choose something else.
There are tons of professions and jobs now so choose something you've rarely or never played.
If you generally play one sim, play a family instead or vice versa.
Sometimes, I'll take a break in actual game play to build a home or community lot.
If all else fails, turn off the computer and read a book, go for a run or call friends.
I think we all get stuck once in awhile. Hope this helps.
