Recently got my 10th Anniversary badge! But I've been playing a lot longer than that! I've been Simming for over 18 years (closer to 25 if you count that weekend I spent playing Sim City when I was in middle school).

It took about 2 weeks in Sim time before my Sim (mermaid, child of the ocean, child of the island, Conservationist career) had cleaned the several trash piles on the beach, plus combed the beach, etc, before I got a notice that the work my Sim was doing was making a difference on the island. No, the career is a rabbit hole. If you choose to "work at/from home" it will give you tasks to complete but they might not be to clean up trash. I have a mermaid Conservationist and she only sees piles of trash to clean up occasionally, mostly from the neighborhood with the volcano.

I had the same problem with the Kava Party until I realized that I was hosting it on the same day as other Sim holidays/events. I don't know if that's an issue for others or not.

The dishes thing was a previous bug that I had. It hasn't been an issue since the most recent patch and/or Island Living.

There are 2 different buoy types/colors. I think the yellow is too shallow but the red give you the option to scuba dive, etc. I'm not sure since I've only played as a mermaid and the options are greyed out for her.

@nostradamus444 It might not be one of the foremost options, but under "Friendly" interactions is where I've found the "kava toast" action.

My Sim is a mermaid that lives in Sulani and she swims A LOT and has a decent fitness level because of it. She also eats well, including when extra food is brought over, but her weight and figure appear to be the same as when I made her, which I'm okay with. Same with Makoa. And he keeps showing up at my mermaid's house late at night and randomly calling her wanting to hang out. He's also my sim's coworker and neighbor. I don't want her to be a homewrecker and she's now got a man, but it's like Makoa is trying to go for it.

U'ilani spent hours combing the beach for seashells and trash, keeping her distance from the volcano. Ultimately, she ended up relaxing and tanning for a while.

I gave it a 9 because of the rabbit holes for snorkeling/diving, plus the limitations on mermaids when it comes to them working in the Conservationist career. I was also hoping the careers that came in this pack would be more like the ones from GTW and GF, that you could accompany them to work and accomplish tasks. But…

I've tried catching frogs at the waterfall several times now and haven't had any luck with them either. Not a one. Maybe it's a bug?

I've heard that "child of the ocean" does as well as being a mermaid (thus I haven't had my mermaid fish/eat fish). I don't know about "child of the island" though I would hope not since my mermaid (that has both "child of..." traits) gets a positive moodlet from eating the new Sulani pork dishes.

What about the Beach Life Aspiration? My mermaid has that and one of her goals in level 3 is "Discover Buried Treasure." I don't know if that would make a difference or not. I haven't quite gotten there yet. Or it might just be a bug (more than likely).

My mermaid, U'ilani, has the same aspiration. It took maybe 2 or 3 Sim days before she found a harvestable coconut tree along the beach. Also, coconuts only produce for harvest during spring and summer. I started in summer.

I love it so far. I do have a few grips about actions mermaids can/cannot do because they are mermaids when it comes to them being in the Conservationist career since it limits them. I don't know if it's a bug or not, since it prevents them from fully doing the most to succeed and climb the career ladder. I'm so used to…

I think I saw on another thread that someone found a treasure chest with greyed out option to open in the cave. Maybe it's like the Forgotten Grotto and you have to reach a certain skill level, maybe handiness or fitness, to open it??

Thanks. I'm glad I know this before my Conservationist Career mermaid has to choose which branch of the field she wants to continue pursuing. Environmental Manager it is, even though I had planned for her to be a Marine Biologist. Guess I'll have to go that route with a different Sim.

Thanks for all these tips! I didn't realize that the 1st two times I held a Kava Party that the reason neither had goals was because they were on the same days as holidays. Finally threw one on a normal day and got gold!

I'm not sure but this happened to my mermaid sim the first time she actually tried to cook something on the stove (breakfast on day 2) and two neighbors (pre-mades, 1 of whom she hadn't met yet) rushed over, put the fire out. She'd caught on fire herself but luckily she was able to extinguish herself in the ocean.

Made a mermaid and moved her to Sulani in summer, then had her go straight for a swim and call a dolphin!
