Following up on this, I tried a few combos of less-expensive bookshelves (Botanical Bookends, Intellectual Illusion Wall-Mounted Bookshelves, Edgier Laddercase, and Media Marathoner All-on-the-Wall), and all of them had the same "for fun" books, but no skill books. Is there a bookcase that comes with skill books? If not,…
Thanks! My night turned upside down...my daughter had an anxiety attack, and I've been up all night with her, instead. :( I'll get this posted ASAP! ETA: Can you believe I didn't know that shelf had that option until I placed it? XD I was wondering where everyone was getting the pretty, true-colored rainbow, and I was…
I know I'm coming down to the wire again, but I wanted to share an in-progress shot (still have to do a lot of landscaping; the building interiors/exteriors are finished). I'm so happy with this build I want to cry. T_T
LOL Not entirely. XD Some of it will be similar, but the building we're looking at IS actually going to be fairly modern; one of the things museums are challenged by nationwide is that people, on average, are leery of the big, old buildings of yore - they are more comfortable approaching a building that's sleek and modern.…
Oh, look - a history museum challenge for someone who works at a history museum and is in the process of planning the building of a new history center and library at said history museum. :D :*
I took it to mean 8 beds for children on the lot, with some sort of roof over them. ^^; I divided mine into two sets of four, because (at least around here) summer camps frown on co-ed cabins, even for littles.
Maybe use MOO and nudge to put a cheap trophy on a cheap shelf? There might also be comparable debug items - I dug through them for a few additional touches to my lot.
Could it be a mod causing the price issue? I have never encountered it with my builds, and some of them I end up playing and tweaking extensively before I submit. However, I don't use mods or CC in my builds or game.
Oh, plum, I missed the deadline for the Spring Designer Showdown because of work, but this sounds like it's right up my alley, too! (Way too many years living in a dorm room. >_> ) I think I'll get digging ASAP on this one. <3
Congrats to all the winners! Thanks for the feedback on my builds - the problems with the house were exactly the ones I knew myself, and I got too cramped for time to remedy them. Glad to know I'm finally getting a feel for better building ideas!

There have been a lot of great tips so far, but I also wanted to throw in a couple of my own for budget/starter builds: Especially for Hawthorne Project houses, particularly young or disadvantaged families, I also build from real-life experience. I'll be 40 this December, my daughter just turned 5, and up until last year,…
Yeah, way back when, The Hawthorne Project had a general set of specs that was true for all builds. There's a whole story behind the project and everything. That said, since I can't find it, and the current post doesn't say anything, I might just take advantage of the Yoga mat loophole. ;) It'd sure make my life easier to…
They don't count, but I'm having a heck of a time turning up the original Hawthorne Project post that talks about the rules/limitations (such as why there has to be easel/chess table/fitness equip/bookcase/computer in the first place - it's to help disadvantaged sims get back on their feet). The only reason I remember the…
You still have time to try again! I finished in budget last night, but I'm not happy with it 100% for this particular family, so I'm keeping it as a generic starter and trying again. :)
Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to figure out how to make Imgur work for doing slideshows the way I want. (You should be able to click on the individual pics on my current slideshows to see the full-full size - if not, please let me know!) Congrats to all the winners!
Thanks for giving options for those of us without Strangerville! LOL That's the one pack I'm skipping - it's just so far away from my jam, I can't justify spending the money to be a "completist." That said, I already have tons of ideas for this with the rest of the packs. <3
I went to actual inhabited (or rather, once-inhabited) caves for my inspiration. I even modeled Nean after reconstructions of Neanderthal faces, to the extent the feature editing tools would let me! There were obviously some things I had to fudge, partly because of Sims 4 item shapes (all of the rocks have flat bottoms,…
