LOL Sorry for the necro. I saw "New thread" and didn't even check to see that new was a year ago.

@Pernimar, don't worry about it because this thread was created for new members such as you to be able to seek help with their TS3 games since new members are unable to create new threads themselves until they become full members. In order to become a full member, you need 25 points, 15 posts and an account older than 24 hours old... :)

@Ayalla Sorry I missed your earlier posts. I haven't been on these forums lately.

In normal times, the best solution would be to build your own PC, and upgrading your existing one would be a reasonable option as well. But right now, graphics cards are extremely overpriced, with the normal $150-200 models going for $350-500 on Ebay. (Prices vary from country to country, but the shortage is a problem everywhere.) So simply exchanging the graphics card isn't really a good option. If you wanted to upgrade the processor, you'd need a new motherboard as well, and at that point you're basically rebuilding the computer. And there's no guarantee this would help, although I guess you could keep the graphics card and rebuild everything else.

System integrators get their supplies directly from manufacturers and so are insulated to a large degree from the GPU shortages and price inflation. So unless you get lucky and find a card at MSRP or close enough, buying a custom build is the best option for someone who wants quality but is also on a budget.

I still think it's a good idea to do a clean install of Windows before you spend money on a new system, but that's me.

As for the other new computers you linked, both are good options. I will say that a desktop has more advantages than just offering an upgrade path. The most obvious is that if something breaks, it can be replaced; when something in a laptop breaks, it often either can't be fixed or would cost too much to do so. Desktops also have better cooling, or at least well-built ones do, and fan configurations can be adjusted if necessary.

If you want a laptop though, the HP is a good option and a at good price for its hardware. It's definitely overkill for Sims 3, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

As for whether the game will lag on either new computer, it shouldn't, and that's not the typical experience of other players with similar hardware. But then I don't know why the game lags on your current computer, because it shouldn't either.

@Pernimar AMD cards tend to have shadow issues, although I don't know whether the issues you're seeing are the same as the ones other players have reported. A couple of those players have said that running this utility to get their graphics cards recognized helped with the shadows too:

    https://www.nexusmods.com/thesims3/mods/106

I haven't looked at the utility myself, so I don't know what other changes it makes. But it's easy enough to try.

If that doesn't help, or you have other outstanding issues, please provide a dxdiag. Hit Windows key-R, enter "dxdiag" without quotes in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the .txt file to your desktop. From there, you can upload it to a filehosting site (the free version of Pastebin is fine) and link it here. You may need to break up the link to get it to post.

@Saturninex I responded to your post on Answers HQ. The solution is to reinstall DirectX 9. You don't need to uninstall anything; just download the installer from Microsoft and run it.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=8109

    Restart your computer afterwards.

@Colorist40 I'll respond to your separate thread, but the above may apply to you too.

@puzzlezaddict hiya! i did the clean wipe. it did help for a short amount of time before returning to being choppy but i’ve spoken to my parents and we’re getting a new one and maybe selling my current one. the budget is not more that £1200 and i did find one. again, you dont need to rush to reply, we’re currently saving up for it. its between this and the other desktop i linked. thanks again :^)

@Ayalla The fact that your current PC ran Sims 3 well for a bit before the lag returned suggests that this problem is fixable. Maybe an update caused the problem, or maybe an antivirus is interfering or another program is incompatible. If you're interested in troubleshooting that, let me know. A new dxdiag would be helpful, as would trying to play in a clean boot with nothing else running aside from Origin and Sims 3.

As for the potential new computer, the PC Specialist option is the better desktop. It has a faster graphics card and an equivalent processor: the 11600K can be overclocked, but I'm guessing you're not interested in doing that. More importantly, the PC Specialist configuration has a better motherboard and power supply, which matter both for the longevity of the computer and in terms of how long you can expect support, i.e. new drivers and BIOS versions, from the board manufacturer.

I would change a couple things about the PC Specialist configuration though, namely I'd go for a single 500 GB NVME SSD rather than a somewhat slower SATA SSD plus a much slower HDD. It looks like even keeping the HDD, you'd come out at £1,203, at least with current prices. And even better, a single 1 TB NVME SSD would put you at £1,198.

It's also possible that the company offers a better or cheaper overall configuration, but it's not really worth comparing prices and specs until you're ready to buy, since both may change between now and then.

@puzzlezaddict i did look for the nvme ssd but i couldnt find the option to choose it. i was sent that pc by my dads work colleague, if you can find anything better on the website thatd be great, but no pressure. :^)

@Ayalla For the "first storage drive," scroll down to the bottom and choose "not required." Two categories below that, under 1st M.2 SSD drive, choose the size you want. If you want a 500 GB drive, the Samsung 970 is worth the low price to upgrade, but for a 1 TB drive, not so much.

Again though, there's not much point in selecting your exact configuration until you're ready to buy.

@puzzlezaddict thats true, i wish someone could just manufacture the ‘perfect’ pc for this game cause this is alot of work haha thank you so much for your help :^)

I hope this is the right place to post!

I've had a save going for a couple days. All of this sudden it won't load on the second loading screen. I've tried several fixes and nothing is working. I've spent hours Googling fixes.

I disabled the interactive loading screen, I cleared my cache, I created an all new game folder. The save does not outwardly appear to be corrupted. No mods or CC.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I'm in a desperate need for help :/ ! I last played the sims 3 on my brothers pc and it ran fine, I got this new laptop and decided to download the game onto it too. I downloaded it through Origin (since this laptop doesn't have a cd port) but when I clicked Play nothing happened. Nothing! I only have one EP with the base game installed but I just can't launch it no matter what I try to do. I've genuinely tried every possible way of tweaking things but nothing seems to work. The laptop I have is compatible and it's brand new so storage is defiantly not the issue here. I'm really frustrated and want to make it work because I really enjoyed playing this game and it would be a real shame. I just really hope someone can help me, I'd be really grateful !!

I'm glad to have found this thread.... My Sims 3 game gone after installing Origin's Sims 4..... I've looked in my Sims 3 folder under documents and there isn't anything as far as saved games, saved photos, downloaded content. All my Sims 3 games were uploaded from physical discs and I know I can just start over, however, I really enjoyed my Sims characters/family that I was already playing. Do you know if it's related to the addition of Sims 4 game or just a fluke?
    thanks in advance.

I have recently installed sims 3 on my new computer to play world adventure (my favorite) again. The problem I have is that I can't discover hidden traps. Since I have played this game a lot earlier I know that you should be able to find hidden traps by clicking where you know the trap is and then select investigate (?)(I play on another langue). But now the only thing the sim can do is walking over it and setting it off.
    What can I do?

I don't know if anyone will read this, since this is a very long thread. My issues are the following:

    1. The game freezes when I try to use the time portal. I've done some research and discovered that this is a known issue. Has anyone managed to find a fix?

    2. Some indicator icons that show lots, families, parties, and other stuff just don't show up in custom worlds. I've done some testing and discovered that if a family/house description is too long, the icon won't show. When I deleted some of the description of these worlds that I downloaded, icons would appear again. This works specifically with households. Still having trouble with party icons.

I have more questions, but I guess this is not the thread for those. I just created this account and was surprised by the requirements to create new threads. I want to ask about custom world and some technical stuff for creating worlds. How can I do that?

@Shadnixx, points are earned by other forum members giving any of your posts Awesome, Like or Insightful and by making a certain amount of comments in existing threads.

This thread explains what you need to do... :)

Thanks for your answer. I appreciate it. But now I realize that gaining the ability to start a thread is dependent on other people's opinions. What I thought was a few questions to help get me started in contributing to the modding of the Sims 3 turns out to be a task to getting people to like me. I'm so happy and not annoyed at all (not at you of course. Thank you for replying to my previous post :) )

You're welcome @Shadnixx... :) You will find out that we have a lot of friendly Sims 3 players on this site that's willing to help out when they can... :) And don't worry, I knew that you weren't annoyed at me. I do know that it can be a bit frustrating for new members to come here with the intent of creating a new thread looking for help only to find out that we have membership restrictions in place that keeps them from doing so. But once the new member starts posting in existing threads either in which ever General Discussion or Creative Corner sections that they're interested in with creative criticism that other people will hit whichever option they feel your comment deserves... :)

@Shadnixx, And you're welcome again... :) It's one of the downsides of being a new member as the quoting system doesn't work until you become a full member. New members also can't send new Private Messages to other members but can reply to PM's made to you by other members. New members can't edit their posts until becoming a full member as well... :)

@fluttermuffin Is it possible your Sims 3 user folder was uploaded to OneDrive and removed from your computer? If OneDrive is set to automatically sync Documents, it can also remove the local copy if and when your C drive gets low on space. And that could happen if you suddenly installed a medium-sized game like Sims 4.

If your files are in fact in OneDrive, start by clearing some space on C, then move the files back to your computer, and you should be able to pick up where you left off. It's also a good idea to make a copy of your Sims 3 folder, or at least your saves, in case something happens to the data again. Best practice is to store it on an external device, although you could use another free cloud storage service (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) instead.

@Ememir Yes, normally you'd click on the ground and select "Inspect" or the equivalent to tell your sim to look for a trap. I believe there are a few locations where the traps don't show up though, so check multiple places just to make sure the option isn't showing up anywhere. And let me know whether you use mods, and if removing them makes a difference.

Please let me know as well if you play the 64-bit Mac version of the game. I haven't heard of this issue specifically, but it would be in line with other issues that version currently has.

@Shadnixx I don't know how to help with the time portal, but for the map tags, you could try adding NRaas Tagger if you don't already use it. The mod replaces the usual tags with its own more customizable options, and these might not be affected by excessively long descriptions.

A few people do keep up with this thread, but we're not always familiar with the issues presented.

Hi all! I'm having an issue with my current sims3 save. I have a big family, and a few nraas mods installed (SP, MC, OW, ET, couple others). I also have the roommates mod installed and when I added a new roommate, it booted my oldest sim off the portrait panel. Now, roommates are disabled on my lot so I guess I brought this on myself, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to enable it for my household. I'm fairly sure i have the setting turned on to allow for more than 8 people in the household (if someone could direct me on where to check, that would be great) but when I added this roommate, it was all fine and dandy until I booted it up today, with my new roommate on the PP but unclickable, and my mother sim not on there at all. Any help would be appreciated!

@Saturninex - First of all, how large is this household including the roommates? Only 8 icons can show on the portrait panel at a time unless you have a mod that increases that number -- the usual choices are NRaas PortraitPanel (not listed among your others) and AwesomeMod. It might be that your 9th and higher sims are being displayed, but you have to cycle through all of them with the spacebar otherwise in order to see them.

Secondly, which roommate mod are you talking about? Do you mean Ani's or perhaps Pjsutton's Apartment mod, or something else entirely?

    Hey there-

So recently had the itch to play Sims 3 again but sadly was met with an issue I was having some months back. When trying to access Sims 3 via the Origin client my Sims 3 is completely greyed out in my library. I can still click on it and pull up the page where you'd expect to find the Play, Favorite, Settings, Play Time and so on... however there is no longer a play or download button. I also noticed that the "Locate Game" option under the Settings menu is greyed out. I can access some other games I have via Origin just fine; it's just Sims 3 giving me the issue.

I've tried deleting my temporary Origin Cache files as suggested by another thread I found on troubleshooting Origin game access issues but to no avail. Any suggestions would very much be appreciated!

@SamuraiSloth - You might get a speedier answer to Origin related questions like that on EA's AHQ board for TS3. My own install is by way of Steam, so I've kind of lost track of which of these issues are now caused by Origin itself and which are account issues that require EA Customer Service to step in and sort out, but those helping out at AHQ are more familiar with all of the install platforms.
